The tail on the left is from a 57lb Male and the one on the right is a 58.5lb female, have I just not noticed that female females have different shaped short wide tails? I skinned 2 other males yesterday that were over 50 and all the Male tails matched. The two in the picture were caught the same night 20 yards apart on Backbreaker.
Just curious, maybe I just never paid that much attention, I have started saving them to tan maybe.

Thanks, Jeff

Wide is better in most uses, however they should be long as well, if your saving to tan, you probably should save any that seem out of sight large to you in any shape. Sewing is always considered when patterning these types of leathers due to pressure put on seams in certain areas of use.

You would be money a head in the long run instead of just concentrating on one size. For those like my self looking for a particular size instead of just taking all tails !

I've never asked what sex the tails come from when buying them, it's an interesting question though !

You know, I've skinned in the neighborhood of probably 350-400 now and I always check sex, but have never correlated it with tail shape.

I will have to keep an eye on that!

Some people refuse to see the truth when you bludgeon them over the head with it.

I think it is more a genetic thing than sex. I have some locales where a lot of shorter wide tails come from. But I will start to pay attention to the sex. Never occurred to me before.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!
