Great picture. I think I'd just look out the window and drink coffee this morning at that temp.

It’s warmed up to about 5 degrees now. I have beaver carcasses on the ice on the private lake I own in the picture. In the last 5 years I have shot 31 coyotes, 1 bobcat, and several red and grey fox from my window. I may go out and freshen my bait pile today, other than that I’m in for the day. The attached picture is the 1st year I started baiting coyotes on the ice [Linked Image]
in the winter

That kind of snow is good for taking a bobcat census and identifying new travel ways and choke points on them

Cool pic BTW

I use a .223 hand load for coyotes, can’t tell you what they are, my son reloads them for me. when I see a fox on the bait I switch to a full metal jacket. That way I don’t destroy the pelt.

Yup!

Btw, I went to Forestry school in Syracuse, and I know your area a bit. In wildlife mgt classes, the winter deer yards in the Tug Hill region were a classic case study!

Grousewit, Still a fair amount of grouse around Tug Hill. But as you know population ebs and flows, mostly dependent on how wet or dry spring nesting season is. I always see way more grouse when I have a deer rifle in my hand, than I do when I have a shotgun.

You MAY go out and freshen your bait pile and after that you're in for the day. Wow! That's a life most of us just dream about! Good for you!

Well I am retired, after 50 years working in all aspects of the Forest industry, from felling timber to consultant Forester . I started when I was 17 years old.
