I used Wolf fangs for awhile and really liked them, but some of our ground is rocky and had a few get cut on the rocks while driving them in. I now use chained superstakes and love them, I weld the j-hooks and I have a puller that is pretty easy on the back

There is a big difference in pulling 100 to 150 anchors or more in a day compared to a trapper that only runs a couple dozen traps. A puller will serve the small-timer, but not the long-liner. The long-liner will put that puller down in time...

for all you guys that are digging . . . assuming you are south enough that your ground is not frozen, take your drill and auger that you use to drill dirt holes, drill a hole right down beside your cable anchor, and pull it right out. I fought digging and pulling for a few years, then one day I walked back to my truck to get another shovel and saw my drill and auger sitting there, and it clicked. It was mixed emotions, I was mad at myself for being a complete idiot and not thinking about this before, and happy that I could throw the shovel down.

Happy Trapping . . .

I use in 12 inch wolffangs here in Nebraska and never have had a coyote even budge one. If the ground isn't concrete I'll pull them and reuse them. If it's bad I pop the J-hook and go.

My friend that comes to trap here from Indiana was having wolffangs pull out in your country when you guys get your mushy ground. He's since went to the super stakes. For what it's worth.

I've trapped 18 states and in these, some I trapped with on research projects used differing stakes. I always use super stakes cut down 5 links from the 16" chain unit. I won't use flat stock as in some states, these will on rare occasion, skate up and outta the ground.

It all depends on your terrain and how many traps you tend.

SW, I just pulled 147 550's outta 75 miles of HARD Texas ground in a little over 5 hours with my puller. It can be done.
There are pullers (most are made as yankers) and then there are those that are "pullers."
Methods for stakes have changed MUCH these last 10 years and I'm grateful they have.

Blessings,
Mark

Wow, this is an old thread that popped up, I now use chained, finned super stakes with the pull cable added. They held in all conditions and were easy to pull with the loop on the pull cable that turns them in the ground.

Use drags and play the find my trap every morning- it is fun and the jerks who want to "do you a favor and put your coyote down (with a deer rifle or 12 ga)" will pass you catch by more often than not.
