I dipped some traps using premium gasoline and kbl trap dye. The traps remain to be sticky a week after I dyed and hung them in a heated shop. Anyone have a remedy to dry them out (cure it)?

Or should I vinegar soak them and start over?

The shop has a wood stove and has been kept between 65-75 degrees.

Thanks

I would call KBL folks for suggestions if it was me.
They are very approachable and would want to help so you are a happy customer.

I'd assume he followed the directions on the can. If they are not correct, surly the people making it for SO many years would of corrected it by now. shocked I'd think Andy's dip must of edited their directions by now too, correct? I'm sure they are telling people the correct EXACT gas that will work right every time along with the EXACT ratio, process, and drying methods that will make it work perfectly too. Don't you think? They certainly wouldn't leave it up to chance if it is going to dry hard and slick or a sticky, stinky mess due to all the possible combinations of ingredients and methods.

Hope you picked up on that sarcasm, I was laying it on pretty thick.

Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine that everytime someone comes on here (and its pretty regularly) with complaints on speed dips not working right, people start in with a million different ways they use it and it works for them, but NONE of them ever say just follow the directions on the can, because the directions don't work right apparently. Its been going on as long as I've been on trapperman forums over 15 years now and apparently the makers just don't care or won't admit that its a crap shoot whether it'll work or not based upon, the gas you use, the temperature, humidity, mix ratios, even storage or the years batch of the dip can be different. I feel you were taken and so are a lot of others, but there is always a few guys who will tell you its great and works for them, if you use their method, during summer, low humidity, white gas... etc.....

I wish I could be more help to your original question, but I'm afraid you're destined to have to remove it somehow (vinegar won't do it, nothing does completely without a lot of effort). I hope I'm wrong.

Well thanks for shooting me straight!

I guess my new question is what WILL remove it if vinegar won’t? (For anyone else who may know)

First time trying, probably won’t again

Again, sorry if I derailed your post.

If it were me, I'd put a fan on them and give them another week, if they are ever going to dry they should have by then since you have what I'd think is ideal drying conditions there. If that doesn't work, then do search for what will dissolve roofing tar. If that stuff ain't roofing tar it's extremely similar and could be removed in the same manner.

Hopefully you'll be one of the lucky ones and it'll dry hard and slick for you. Good luck. ~ADC~

Update:

Straight vinegar soak for three days and a hot water hose cleaned that gunk off!
