Gabby Giffords: 2021 Goal Is to Push Gun Control via ‘Powerful Platforms’ in Hollywood

Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords told Variety magazine one of her goals for 2021 is to see Hollywood writers and producers use their media platforms to push gun control.

Variety reported: “One of Giffords’ priorities for 2021 is to forge relationships with writers, producers, celebrities and decision-makers in Hollywood who can leverage their powerful platforms to speak out against gun violence, call for commonsense laws and support local community efforts to raise awareness about gun safety.”

The magazine noted that Giffords “has started engaging with the entertainment community and hopes to devise more strategic ways to work together in the new year to help shift cultural attitudes and push policies that make for a gun-safe country.”

When asked specifically about the role she hopes Hollywood will play in the gun control push, Giffords said:

Stories are important. Elected officials use them to help get their points across, and for centuries artists have used them to inspire, make us understand points of view different than our own and bring people together. Hollywood and the arts are vitally important to helping us through a period of isolation, bitterness and divisiveness.

But she also made clear that using “film directors” and others in Hollywood to push her gun control message is only one facet of her plan. She noted she will “need and welcome everyone in this fight: doctors, survivors, gun owners, veterans, mothers and fathers,” too.

Giffords has dedicated her public career to gun control efforts since a near-fatal attempt on her life in January 2011 in Tucson, Arizona, while serving as a member of Congress.

Talk about fingernails on a chalkboard, every time I use to hear her talk.

I am 100% against ANY infringements on gun ownership the 2A right, and the duty as a father and husband to protect my wife and family.
But I see nothing wrong with Gun Safety and making people aware of Gun Violence. But as we all know it will not stop there.
Letting people know about Gun Violence and maybe it will encourage some to get armed. I feel weapon safety should be a class in our school. JMO

Knife violence, hit in the head with a hammer violence, penknife in the eye violence...it's violence, it doesn't need a modifier.

If she can convince Hollywood to start moving against guns, that will be a neat trick. Most movies and TV shows glorify gun violence. That is where we learned the benefits of the double tap. Once watched John Wick whack 40 guys in 40 seconds......did it a couple times. John Wick became a 3 movie franchise based on nothing but piling up dead bodies. A lot of folks die violent in Hollywood with no consequences to anybody.

Sadly, movies like Death Wish 3 and Robocop, which were just plain old stupid back when they were made......have now circled back to real life. What was stupid back then is urban reality now.

Hollywood has made millions peddling gun violence. Like HayDay mentioned above. You can’t watch a movie anymore without people getting slathered in it.

My predictions on gun control.........House will write a bill, it will be a bill they know wont pass, it wont pass, they will blame it on conservatives and "corrupt" liberals, they wont worry about it till after the next election. Now when it comes to online gun part sales, Biden might be able to do something there. High capacity magazines, wont pass. Ammo registration, won't happen.

Heres why they wont take our guns. Politicians are smart, they know that guns make our country safer. They talk about it to get votes. Also, who's going to take our guns? I don't see any gun owners handing them in, and I don't see any law enforcement dumb enough to go ask people for their guns. I know some doomsdayers on here will have reasons why they are, but thats my positive view for this positive website.

Time to get my warm clothes on so I can go dig my traps out of the snow. Snow couple days in the Vegas Valley. Hope it gets those kitty cats moving.
