You'll thank me later. grin

Thanks for input, guys. I turn to you fellas for solace and you mock me as well. I've got bait wired to dead poles they've managed to ignore for three or four weeks. MB 750s, 330s, a #14 Jump, snares and more snares.

You can get away with this idea but have to use a decent diameter bait stick and run a cable down through the inside of the snares anchored in some fashion to a base and above the ice so that even if they chew through you'll still be able to retrieve all your rigging and any snared beaver.

Use a solid dry pole and attach 18" pieces of desirable bait sticks around the circumference high and low on your bait pole so that you can concentrate your snares at specific locations and increase your catch ratio. Deadly set.

Thanks. I've secured the snares to a wire that runs up the poles and are wired off topside. I tried wiring bait to dead poles but they ignore it. My last attempt was a fresh, three inch diameter bait stick I ran from bottom to top. I had just two snares on it three or four inches below the ice. I could see the snares were knocked down after opening the hole.

I knew you were just hacking on me. Maybe a foot of ice and I'm between the lodge and the feed pile. I don't think it's ten yards between the two. Two feet of water, maybe.

If they are chewing your bait pole then you will snare them. Just use a bigger pole so they spend more time chewing it. Obviously you have it set in the right place cause they're working it, and thats the most important part! Try again! Endevor to persevere lol

As long as they're still working the pole, they're playing with fire. It's only a matter of time.

Just pulling your chain a little, Buddy. Ho harm intended. Seeing the green stick with the snare wired to it, I just couldn't help myself. blush

Make sure you're baring good portions of your bait sticks to crate a white visual attractant.

Its a good set as long as the snares are independently cabled up to the surface.

I prefer a dropped 330 wit bait on the trigger on bottom. Belisles of course because of the Safety hooks on until upside down ready to lower.

Good stuff, thanks all. This same pond gave me fits last year, I caught just one off it. I've never seen beaver so shy of traps before and I'm the only guy chasing them in this area.

I prefer to go as far into the season as I can but there's not a lot of water to work with and I had over two feet of ice last year. Most of the ponds I have access to seem to have shallow water.

Having problems myself, Posco! Set up two baited snare poles fairly close to the feed piles. Had the snares pulled out a few times but otherwise, no beavers in the snares. Finally took a look around the area and found they are coming up out of the top of one of their bank dens and have a ton of chewing going on up on the bank. They have taken down a bunch of nice fresh trees that they have chewed the bark off of. They are working on a Cottonwood so big I can't even get my arms around it. Logs laying around like matchsticks. They have dragged a lot of limbs down into the hole. Found another bank den entrance that has collapsed and they covered it up with sticks and logs. When I stepped on it there were big ones rushing in and out of the bank den creating wakes in the water that was there before our recent freeze-up.

Pulled my snare poles and am going back in after them at the den entrance with 330's this weekend. Had to wait for decent ice as I don't want to be in the water with a big aggressive one I met up with early on.

Gonna get 'em whether they like it or not.

Good luck!

Moosetrot
