Winchester AA hulls, are they suitable for reloading into upland game rounds with different shot sizes? Or are they best reserved for skeet reloads? We shoot a lot of skeet in the summer, but would like to reload some of the hulls for different upland game. A box of #8's are $6.95, I picked up quite a few to go with the 100 round boxes of 7.5 Federals we normally use for skeet. How are the Federal skeet loads for reloading? Reloaded shotgun rounds years ago, thinking it will add some winter variety in the workshop, when too windy to ice fish.

you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

I hope they are suitable. I started doing it in the 1960's when they introduced the AA hull. They have changed the hull over the years, but it is 100% OK if you follow the recommended loads in a modern loading manual. When I was shooting 20,000 trap loads a year I got new manuals every year. They passed them out free at the national trapshooting tournament.

I load AA hulls for all sorts of stuff. 1oz for target, 1.125 for upland, 1oz steel shot for waterfowl swatters. It's a very versatile hull. A box of Win AA 1.125oz #8 is $9/box, I reload for about 1/2 of that and have a better quality load.

All I load for hunting are the AA's. Load for 6's, 71/2's, and 8's and have no problem as long as you have a fairly new reloader's manual. You should be good to go.

I load them to mainly for trap and small game. The only problem I have had with the newer style AA's is that on some loads depending the type and amount of powder. The lip of the powder cup on the wad cup would catch the lip of the powder base in the hull and not let it seat all the way down and then the hull would buckle at the final crimp station because the shot column was to high. Claybuster makes lead in taper style wads to eliminate this problem. All they did was round the lip of the powder cup of thier Winchester style wads and their remington tgt 12 wad so it doesn't catch the hull powder cup lip.
My goto load is 17grains hi skor 700x,rem tgt 12 wad, 1oz of 7.5 or 8 for trap and doves. For squirrel I sub in 1oz of 5's and lastly I made some up with copper plated 6's but 1 1/8 oz for a lower recoil turkey load for my neighbors young grand son.Load works very well for him they keep the shots to 30 yards or less.

AA hulls are known for durability in reloading. Should work great for a game load.

I haven't done it for while, but used to reload the AA hulls for pheasants, using 1-1/8 oz of copper plated 5 shot and Winchester 571 powder.

The AA's are very reloadable . I have a few hundred that I can't guess how many times I have fired them. BUT...............the Remington STS is much more forgiving and flexible where different components and different stack heights are concerned. The Remington re-crimps much better than the AA. So I would suggest that you replace.....over time.......the AA with the STS. Your biggest problem right now will be finding components

When I was loading 1000 rounds per week,,Blue Magic hulls were my favorite.I could get a lot of reloads out of those and would pick them from the skeet fields whenever I saw them.Dont think they even make them any more.

I loaded the heck out of those Top Guns years back if you find the right wad your golden never had a problem reload them and then let them fly at a registered shoot to keep focused on the shoot.

I like loading AAs better than any other shot shell casing. I've loaded everything from 4s to 7 1/2s. Even loaded 1 1/2 oz of shot for turkey hunting with #4 shot. Great turkey load.

I used to have a load from a manual for AA hulls for #4 buck with Herco. Swatted yotes with authority.
Yes they are very versatile hulls.

In college my brother and I had a Ponsness Warren progressive and tons of AA hulls from a retired trap shooter nearby. We loaded for quail and ducks and had great luck.

My favorite duck load for years... 1 1/8 ounce of 5's in lead.
