Pros, they’re very reliable, last forever. Cons, you have to dig a larger bed and they’re more bulky. I personally really like trapping with double longsprings on land, so long as the ground isn’t frozen solid. They bed like a dream in soft soil.
What problems have you had with coil springs?

I'm with Bob, what are your bad experiences with coils? I'm no yote trapper but have trapped coons, fox and groundhogs with both. The longs do require a bigger bed and with ghogs, that means more disturbance at the hole, but the feeling of nostalgia makes it all good. I'm in the camp of, do them both and pick your go to.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Im cosidering using nothing but longspring traps on my line and nothing else except conibears E If that's what you have confidence in, go for it. A #11 longspring is a great choice in water for coons and mink. A #5 longspring is great for beaver. A #3 longspring will hold coyotes well, a #4 will too. A #2 would be great for fox. Lots of good options in longspring traps. More than one way to skin a cat, you know.

I suspect you found a few duds but you can't group all coilsprings together. There are bad longsprings out there too.

Sounds like you’ve been using duke traps. Buy some mb550s and all those problems you had will go away. I been running the same mb550s for ten years and the only time they get bent up is when a tractor runs em over.

Ok ur right whats the best k9 coilspring traps that i wont have any problems with If you look through a trapping supply website, you'll see lots of great options. Every brand has good solid traps, most have a few that are not as well. There are links all over this forum and here a couple I personally like best... https://www.schmittent.com/product-category/trapshttps://hilltopoutdoorsupply.com/product-category/traps/If you see one you like the looks of, ask about it on here, you'll get some feedback on them.

I have had many bad experiences with coilspring traps and all good from Long spring traps and I wonder if I could just go to nothing about them and if so what are the pros and cons I love longs for rats and coon. Single longs, with super strong springs will even do great with Coon. The old Blake and lamb 1 long with the spring that has the round end will hold a Coon as good as an 11. You can get little spring helpers that slide into the others that make for a tough 1 long for Coon as well but not as good as the Blake and lambs. I don’t target fox so I don’t use 2s. These little longs are pretty affordable and I like them for public land in case they get stolen. If you’re looking to use bigger long springs you’ll have to make sure they have a way to create pan tension. Lots/most of the older used longs are going to have sloppy loose pans. They require some modifications/investment to turn them into good fox or coyote traps. That’s a real pain.... On the other hand, the oldies usually do not need baseplates or laminations. The older long springs are pretty tough as is and an upgraded pan system makes them pretty mean machines. They bed great in soft stuff, but you’ll swear at them in frozen ground, but I do think they won’t freeze down quite as fast as coils. Maybe that’s because you have to dig so much dirt to bed them that there’s more loose dirt? Chains will also need attention usually with at least more swivels. Make sure the springs are good. It’s 10-12 bucks for new ones. Farting around with used and abused traps is no fun so look for nice ones. They’ll cost more than crappy ones though.... The trap shed has them often. Overall, they are fun and cool to use, but there are quality coil springs that are good to go right out the box. They’ll catch and hold just as good or better, and they bed easier. Check out Minnesota Brand, No BS and other high quality traps before you write off coils. Good luck!
