They should outlaw internal combustion engines for everyone who lives in the cities and suburbs, and spend the money on electric powered mass transit, and mag lev electric powered high speed rail between cities.
Rural and small town folk should get the exemption and be allowed to use what they have now since they wont have a viable option until future development takes place to make electric vehicles more affordable and realistic for them.

Freedom is the answer...not more regulation.

What about all the lawns that need lawn mowers, leaf blowers, boat motors, snow machines, 4 wheels and on and on?

So if you live in a city you can't own anything with a ICE?

I hope your joking, if not that comment takes the cake. crazy crazy

There will not be a substitute for gas/oil until it gets too expensive and then something else will become economically viable. Doesn't matter what the gov't does.
If the gov't forces electric cars on the masses there will be black outs daily.

Solar and wind both suffer from lack of an economical and large enough storage system for times when there is zero production but still power is needed.
Batteries are a long way off from being a viable storage medium.
For solar to work out now you'd need to store the excess you create in the summer and draw from it all winter long. Ain't enough power generation from solar in the winter between snow covering the panels and the short cloudy days.
I'll bet we haven't had more than 1/2 dozen sunny days this Jan.

Out here solar is a lot more viable than in Wisconsin. We’ve had snow 2 or 3 times this winter but it’s gone within a day or two. The sun is out far more often than not.

Good, we'll add millions of solar panels all over Nevada, should be enough to power the rest of the US.

While were at it, maybe we should be told where to live and what to eat.

It’s been discussed, not sure what stage they’re in but they had planned on putting in a large solar field i the middle of the desert to help power Vegas

you don't think that might impact the local environment, do you Bob?

a number of years ago, our governor contemplated cutting down forests (natural solar panels) to make room for artificial ones.

fortunately, he didn't get support for that idea.

Dow Corning has the technology for a road surface that would work as a highway solar panel. Expensive yes but so was the interstate system. Legislators and public scoffed at Eisenhower when he proposed the interstate system. Electric vehicles not for every purpose but its coming.

I don't think ANYONE realistically believes we will ever fully eliminate the use of any fossil fuels. All the more reason to try conserve what of it we can for later use rather than wasting it our our tailpipes.

If I knew I could reduce my impact by say 50%, I would gladly pay 50% more for my power as I think it would be worth it.

I'm all for nuclear as I think it's our most reasonable stopgap while we refine and improve other technologies.

Point being, at least we are thinking about it. Happy trapping! ScottW

And what about all the govt boondoggles trying to get the steam engines and Internal combustion engines technology up and running?-No different with any new technology the governments invest in.
it doesnt happen overnight,it has to be nursed along like a little baby until it can fend for itself.
The moon shot was the only one that couldnt stand on its own after initial govt investment.because it had no day to day practical use.
Everything else was stuck with and seen thru to fruition and practical use, just like the new alternatives will be.

Your impact Scott? That is a bunch of hype, created out of thin air by greenies. Do you really believe the al gores of the world really care, like bowhunter said, follow the money. Gore wants you to buy carbon credits (pay money) to the .gov because of the sin of living in this world, bwhile they fly all over the country, between their seven- ten houses, have gas guzzling cars, and it's okay for them. Look at pelosi, and all the rest of them, lavish lifestyles and the rules don't apply. Their climate change crap the greenies push is just that.....crap! Follow your nose, it stinks to high heaven!

YOU CAN IGNORE REALITY, BUT YOU CANNOT IGNORE THE CONSEQUENCES OF IGNORING REALITY.

So let me get this straight.

Steam engine technology and IC engine technology was government funded?

Yes assisted by governments-for example, the government stealing the land from indigenous people by using the force of the army to provide it to the railroads for their steam engines.
Just one example of many.
