I’m a long time lurker but I decided to join because occasionally I feel like I could chime in and share what little
I know about trapping. This is only my third season trapping but I have had a fair amount of success. I trapped in 2013 and 2014 but hadn’t been able to the last 5 years due to work but started my own business a year ago and now am able to run a small line, about 20 traps or so. Thank you all for willingly sharing all the information that you do.

Make it a stiff drink, it gets deep in here sometimes.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I’m familiar with a lot of the guys that frequent this forum and enjoy all the entertaining and informative posts on here. I have spent a lot of time reading the archives and just about everything else I possibly can on land trapping for coyotes and bobcats. I catch plenty of grey fox but they are never a target, I just can’t keep them from clogging up my cat sets. I wasn’t really planning on trapping this season but I sold most of my cows late last summer due to severe drought and losing a couple leases and I’m not one to sit on the couch for any amount of time so I decided to try and catch some critters. My son, who is 13, also thought it would be cool to run a trap line again. We’ve had about 20 traps out for a little over a month and have caught 8 greys, 1 red, 3 coyotes, 2 bobcats(one was a young kitten probably from last spring that we released) and a badger. I have missed more cats this year than I care to mention lol, had two cats pull out of traps, and missed a few coyotes too. If I was a little more seasoned and a decent trapper the fur shed would be looking really good. I have learned a few things from the misses and pullouts so we’ll see if I can get a few more critters caught in the next month and a half. Anyway, thanks again for welcoming me to the forum!

I work on injection pumps in the oil and gas field here in the San Juan basin. I worked for my previous employer for 12 years and decided in December of 2019 that I was going to start my own business. I probably picked the worst year I could have to start, but all things considered my first year in business was a success. I am my only field employee and my wife does all our invoicing and bookkeeping and she also works another part time job from home and home schools our son. She is an amazing woman!
