Look back at all the 7.3 problems Ford/international had. I know of several trucks that the coolant ate up the cylinder walls and the timing cover. I had one of the trucks also. It was a common problem from the first 7.3 till the last in 2003. The problem would of came back on international because they made the motor for Ford. Ford blamed it on the coolant used like you said. I was just getting at the point that cat, Mack, Cummins etc didn’t come out with the same statement saying not to use green coolant in there engines. I’m not doubting the John Deere guys on here. I got a old John Deere log Skidder and I doubt the only time it has had John Deere Coolant was when it was assembled. I got a buddy who owns several John Deere tractors. He has a 2550 with over 9000 hours and the motor has never been touched. He changes the coolant every couple of years and puts a additive in it. Maintenance is the key on the older equipment.

Use the the Deere cooloant, it’s worth the extra $. I’ve sat through more certification training than I care to admit on the topic. Also, if you have any medical concerns, please reach out to your Dr before consulting trapperman lol

Wharton nailed it. I worked as a Deere tech years ago. Without an electrolytic neutralizer in the coolant, static electricity makes tiny bubbles that land on the outside of cylinder sleeves and pop. Over time, it will make a crater, and pierce the liner, putting water into the crankcase. You can use the Deere, or NAPA makes a product called NAPA kool. On case ih we plumb them for a coolant conditioning filter. If you have a wet sleeve diesel (you do) doing none of the above is begging for an engine overhaul. 25 yrs farming-diesel mechanic, trust me ^^^^This^^^^^ Make sure to flush the system out GOOD and I would change all the hose (while it’s drained) as well. IMO B

When was the last time that tractor was at the Dealer , and had a complete engine overhaul ? If I remember correctly, I think it got an overhaul in sometime around 99 when they repainted the ol girl. I will have to ask grandpa again, that was before my time haha
