I finally got.my.new used engine and trans installed in my truck this last weekend, we had some nice weather, but now it's cold and nasty, so it's gonna sit some more.
All kinds of fitment issues, more than you'd think when it's the same engine (302) as before, with a different trans (aod). I used my original exhaust manifolds, the exit location is different than the ones that came on the engine. I don't want to have to buy a new exhaust just yet, so I used the old ones so I could hook up my old exhaust. One problem.....
The new transmission's dipstick tube sits directly in the way of the right side manifold's exit. I've got a stainless braided flexible tube coming, hopefully that'll give me room to get my exhaust in or else I'll be buying some long tube headers and an exhaust system.
The heater hose outlets are on the back of this motor, under the intake manifold, they were on the front of the old motor. I can't use the old hose connections because the coolant temp sensor is in the heater hose pipe on the new motor, and I need that. Some random heater hoses from the parts store will get that hooked up fine though.
I'm trying to reuse my old mechanical throttle linkage, but the rod from the pedal assembly wasn't long enough afterbending it to get past the TV cable bracket, so I had to get some rod from the hardware store, anneal it in a fire to make it bendable enough, and I'll need to bend it correctly and cut some threads onto it.
The intake tube runs directly into the brake lines, so I'll either need to resend them out of the way, or find some aftermarket cold air kit. I think those look kinda hokey, and I want the look of a factory motor including the air intake, so I'll likely move the brake lines.
Then, once I get all these fitment issues figured out, I still have to wire it up and plumb up a new.fuel system. Fun stuff. I need some warm weather, because I'm doing all this in the driveway. It'll get done eventually
