I wouldn't want to see all wolves eliminated. But, it's only good conservation to manage their numbers by hunting and trapping. we could wipe out the Wisconsin packs and in 8 years have more than we do today with all of them coming from MN and MI however the packs will definitely not be wiped out in 15 days even if every guy with a rifle took off the rest of the month and hunted them. In MN, a 15 day season wouldn't put a dent in their population.
The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.

I think in MI. to hunt Elk, you pay a fee to get into the drawing, if drawn you pay to hunt. Plus I think you have to have to pay for a guide. It's all about money folks.

How many freezers do you think already have a wolf or 2 in them? Probably plenty. I remember the first year Illinois had an otter season I saw a guy at the rat wagon with two that looked awful stale.

There is going to be a season, maybe only 6 days but there will be a draw and a season. it is my understanding this meeting is to set the quota. I could have set the quota two months ago based on past history! But someone/s chosen not to have a wolf season this winter. Took the survey ... What a JOKE!

Just don't understand the deer regs? They seem to be dropping hunters in big numbers, along with $$. Well I do think with deer regs, some special interest groups have sway right now.

From the Milwaukee Journal:
Rushing to comply with a judge's ruling, the Department of Natural Resources will propose on Monday a harvest quota of 200 wolves for consideration by the Natural Resources Board. In a bizarre circumstance borne of state statute and a court order, hunters and trappers would have just seven days to fill a wolf tag. The special board meeting was called after a Jefferson County judge on Thursday ordered the DNR and NRB to implement a wolf hunting and trapping season in February. The ruling came in a lawsuit brought against the DNR and NRB by the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty on behalf of Hunter Nation Inc., a Kansas-based hunting advocacy group. Luke Hilgemann, president of Hunter Nation, is a Wisconsin resident. State law calls on the DNR to hold a hunting and trapping season running from early November to the end of February if the wolf is not on the endangered or threatened species list. The wolf was removed from the federal Endangered Species List on Jan. 4; the DNR planned to wait until November to begin the next wolf season. The board, which sets policy for the DNR, agreed in a 4-3 vote at its Jan. 22 meeting. But Thursday's ruling by Jefferson County judge Bennett Brantmeier forced the DNR and NRB to implement a season this month. Given the short time frame required by the court order, public and tribal input was very limited and the state's Wolf Advisory Committee was unable to meet, according to the DNR. The agency said the kill target of 200 wolves was developed by department staff in consideration of several factors, including the most recent population estimate, the public response to a harvest in the 2012-14 seasons, the current management plan, scientific literature and population model projections. The DNR will recommend 2,000 wolf permits be issued. According to the department's plan, the permit application period would begin 12:01 a.m. Tuesday and close at midnight Saturday. Drawing results would be available Feb. 22. Winners could begin hunting and trapping as soon as they purchased their license and printed their carcass tag. The season would run through Feb. 28. Preliminary information released by the DNR did not specify whether the quota would be divided among the state's six wolf management zones. When the state held wolf hunting and trapping seasons during the last period of state management authority, the pre-season process spanned about seven months and hunters and trappers required about two months to fill the quotas. Thursday's court ruling was the latest chapter in the often-litigious history of wolf management. And it won't be the last this month. Your stories live here. Fuel your hometown passion and plug into the stories that define it. Create Account On Friday state attorneys representing the DNR and NRB began an appeal of the Jefferson County ruling. The appeal was filed in District Court I in Milwaukee County. The state attorneys also submitted a motion seeking an expedited stay. The motion asks the appeals court to rule by 5 p.m. Monday. State rules require appeals to be filed in a different district from the original case. Jefferson County is in District IV. Absent any new legal order, the DNR and NRB must continue to comply with the judge's ruling. Brantmeier set a review of the DNR's progress for 10:15 a.m. Tuesday in Jefferson County Circuit Court. Wisconsin held hunting and trapping seasons for three years, killing 117 wolves in 2012, 257 in 2013 and 154 in 2014 before a federal judge’s ruling returned wolves to the Endangered Species List. Each of the previous seasons started in late October and ended in late December. In 2014 the DNR set a statewide quota of 150 wolves and sold about 1,100 licenses. Last winter the DNR estimated 1,195 wolves and 256 packs in the state, both modern-era highs. Unlike in 2012-14, when the DNR expressed its desire to "put downward pressure on the wolf population," the agency has not expressed a wolf management goal since assuming state authority for the species. Such an objective is expected to be part of an update of the state's wolf management plan later this year. Provide input, view wolf meeting The NRB will meet at 11 a.m. Monday to discuss the next steps to establish a wolf hunt in February. The public can watch the meeting on Zoom or DNR webcast. Written comments may be submitted via the DNR's website; the deadline for submissions is 11 a.m. Sunday.

Since the coyote trapping season closes on Mon the 15th how Is that going to work? Same as any other incidental. We didn't move coyote opener back when we moved the wolf season back. Thanks Moosetrot. Lots of info there to digest.
