... how do y’all up north hands keep your water pipes from busting when it stays frozen for months at a time?

... forecast is 10 here Monday and I’m just going to kill the power to the well and drain the pipes till it warms up lol

All water lines are buried below the frost line.As far as in the house goes,,you need to keep heat in the house,,or drain all water lines for winter.Anti freeze is poured into toilets and such.

In this case, the earth six feet down is your friend. Keep the pipes in the home in the heated areas and all is fine.

I'd like to shove a barrel of global warming up Al Gore's chimney.

It's 22F here currently. It's supposed to go down to 14F, but unless it clears up a lot, I think the clouds will hold in the heat and keep it warmer.

No. Your son needs the plow.

On a serious note, you were asking about frozen water lines. If the place does not have good heat leave the faucet open with a small trickle of water running thru it.

Heat trace, its a wire that heats up. Run your waterline, and heat trace inside another pipe,or box, insulate it if you can, and turn it on on cold nights. Put a old freezer or fridge over your well if its sticking up above ground.

Its +18 here in Western Alaska. Was +35 yesterday.
