Dig the bed twice as big as you usually would, twice as deep too, then sift dirt back into the bed. Once you have a nice thick layer of sifted dirt in the bed, a good inch or more, you should be able to bed the trap in it no problem.

In an area of my line the area is composed of granite decomposed granite and sand. My go to set is exposed with either branches or rocks blocking the trap. I use a tie of cable.

Cubbies work great for me. I make mine big and flashy they attract cats and grays occasionally a yote. Cubbies really shine in or just after a snow. The downside is it's time consuming to make/ remake.

i use a long spring trap. scoop up duff from under a juniper tree. put a twig under the loose jaw. i really prefer the pan to be the low spot at a set but mick jagger was right. you cant always get what you want.

Speaking of trap bedding, how do you folks plan on digging the bed next week in our frozen conditions for Wi's wolf season?

I use an axe in froze ground. Dirt for bedding can be hard to find. You go through a lot of it.

You don’t.
You use exposed pan sets or you could import local rotten log wood.
