Lots of bear hunters on here and I suppose this will rankle a few of you. I know I'm going out a limb here because the honey burn is a big tradition for a lot of people, but watch the video with an open mind!
I agree totally Bernie. For years I have used a mixture of frying oil, bacon grease, and vanilla. I save my oil and bacon grease throughout the year. Usually spray about half a gallon and normally have the bait hit within 3-4 days. The key is to put the bait where the bear are. It is just like trapping.

I believe your spot-on with this, Bernie. A honey burn is very popular in my area, and I know lots of folks that do it, or at least did before it became illegal here....in Michigan you are not allowed to put bait in any type of man made container. The last couple years they have changed the law to make barrels legal, with several silly restrictions that make them not worth the bother. Bear hunting is loaded with a bunch of myths and odd-ball traditions that each group swears by, and I expect your about to get blasted by the honey burn gang, I know lots of people love doing it.

Bears have a phenominal sense of smell. A small bottle of good bear lure with the top opened will bring them in from near and far. Of course they need to get a taste of something when they get there or they wont stick around.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Yep. They lose interest in a bait quick if you don't keep them fed.

No bear baiting here, the guys I know do very well each year on fair chase.
I've baited many times and climbed mountains after them an equal number of times. Climbing the mountains is definitely more challenging, both physically and trying to find the darn things once you've fought your way up to their vicinity. A lot of fruitless stalks.

If you couldn't bait in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan, there wouldn't be bear hunting. Same with all the boreal forest areas of central and eastern Canada.

Why is that so? You big Midwestern boys can’t see or walk?
