In this week's episode of the Trapping Today Podcast I interview Ryan Moyle from Moyle Mink & Tannery. For folks less familiar with the tanning process (like I was), this is a great resource. We talk for more than an hour about all stages of the process and the details required to produce a good tan. Ryan also talks some about the history of the family business...it's a pretty fascinating story!

Here's the link, or you can find it on most podcast apps: https://trappingtoday.com/ryan-moyle-from-moyle-mink-tannery/

Incredible to be able to understand the process and challenges involved in all of us sending them our small mixed species batches!

Just sent some fur yesterday to Moyles. Always have been happy with their tanning services.

Help yourself.

One of the interesting points he made was the difference in turnaround time based on when you send your fur in. Send in April, and 3 or 4 months is not uncommon. Send in January, like I did this year, and get it back in a month.
Another thing that struck me is the sheer labor intensiveness of the whole process. This is a business that's very sensitive to labor costs, which Ryan mentioned has been increasing quite a lot lately.

That was an awesome interview, very interesting. I’m curious how many people work there? Sounds like a big operation.

I’ve been to the Moyle tannery multiple times. It is a fairly small unassuming building. You can drive right past it without knowing it is there.

I really enjoyed the interview. Most of that was new information to me. Thanks for doing these interviews.

That's a lot of great information and explains most of my questions I've had about the furs I've sent in.

At one point he mentioned having 50 people working in the tannery. Probably much smaller than the commercial tanneries overseas, but bigger than I would have expected.
