Bought my first handgun at Rays when I was 21. I still have a box of .22 ammo that has their price sticker on it.

Sarco in Easton PA specializes in old guns, lots of military collectables and parts too. I haven't been there in about 10 years so I'm not sure if they are still doing the same thing or not. Place was cluttered like an old army navy store.

Hill Rod & Gun Company on Main St in Bozeman MT has that old store feel and is fun just to look around. They sell a lot of English shotguns and have a wall of consignment guns so there’s plenty to look at. We stop in every year when we’re over that way.

Flaig’s gun shop in Millvale PA. (Just north of Pgh). Spent about every Saturday there as a kid, the place was like a museum. They built custom rifles that were shipped all over the globe. Miss that place.

There was one just outside of Brookeville PA. It was a general store. They had all the really old and obsolete calibers of shells.

There was also one just outside of West Newton PA just called "The Gun Rack." It's still there. I'm not sure how old it is. I bought my first pistol there. If my mom wasn't in the car we'd always stop at it on our way anywhere if we passed it. Sometimes we'd even make a little side trip to stop.

If you needed something for reloading, you went there to find it. That would be in the 60's, 70's and maybe later.

As for long guns, if John Wall didn't have it, you didn't need it.

Anybody know the place in KC I'm thinking of?

Any others? Any others still in business?

Can't think of one in KC you would be thinking of, but made the trip to Blairstown several times. Still have a couple cases of pheasant loads I picked up there, seems like in the late 90s, but my memory may be off a few years. I do remember they was reasonable enough price that I bought more than needed at the time.

Familiar with the Gun Rack, I haven’t stopped in for a while. Gun shops are weird now, always packed with people looking to buy something they can’t shoot. Most of the small shops I’ve been in over the last year are cleaned out, literally.

in the greater Chicago area: Blue Island Gun Shop, Sundeens, VL&A in downtown as well as Klein's (where Oswald bought his Carcano).
Used to Go to Bill's trap and skeet supply on Glenwood Dyer road. They had an indoor range. I stopped a few years ago to see if they were still in business and they wouldn't let me past the door because I was out of state. No FOID no entry. Almost all of these are closed or run out.

Green Supply in Vandalia, Mo. Went big and bankrupt. Well deserved. Whole family worthless.

One in Ft Madison Iowa still going. Faeth's cigar store. If any obscure caliber to be found he is the guy. Same building as far back as I can remember. Last I was in there still had his elk and moose heads mounted on the back bar.

Visited Wall grocery/gun many times while I was going to College in Warrensburg Mo. Never seen so many guns in one place in my life. I think he owned every building in town as they were all connected and all full of guns. When I really got into bowhunting I bought my first bow from CR speciality In KC. I believe that was around 1994. Really good shop and good people. Not sure when they went out of business the building is a high end wine liquor store now.

Grice’s Gun Shop has been around as long as I can remember in Clearfield, Pa. A lot of guys would stop in on their way to camp in hunting season. I always favored Bob’s Army Navy in the same town.

We have one down south of me that is as old school s it can be. Two old boys run it and ya walk in and handle any gun ya want to. Find one your interested in and take it up to the counter. They will ask a question or two then give ya a price. If your savvy, that is where the fun begins. They will bicker and deal with ya as long as ya want.

They have or can get anything I have ever wanted them to. The old building don't look like much but they do a heck of a business.

There used to be one in Alton. I lived about 40 miles as the crow flies from it when it blew up one Saturday morning. We felt the shock from the explosion. In fact I was up in a tree and it about shook me out of it. I don't think they ever figured out what caused it, but it was massive. Dad and I went to look a few days later and I was amazed at the size of the hole it blowed into the ground. It is hard telling how many lbs of powder was in the basement when it went off..
