Did a little pest Control around the homestead today after work. I was blessed with a good shoot, 94 starlings with reloaded 1oz # 8s. They respond well to a call and my hand carved decoys.

85 in this picture, I shot 9 more after this.

The battlefield! I live in a fly away, so it is constant flock after flock all day long.

That's something that use to be common here but they must've changed their pattern as I might see one good long string a year now.

Nice shooting!

They are good to eat. My granddaughter and I just had some that I killed for raiding the bird feeders. They taste like dove.

Eh...wot?

You sir are my new hero! Keep it up!

I am curious what a starling call sounds like?

Thankyou! I put up a lot of bluebird boxes and I know that they will peck a bluebird to death and nest on top of them. I have to make the hole an1/8th" smaller, so that the starlings can't get in.

I have watched adult starlings land on our tree swallow boxes and when the little fledglings stick their head out the hole thinking it's mom with supper the starling grabs them and flings them out of the nest.

You are way ahead of me -- I decided to start keeping track of how many I shoot in a year. So far 30 since jan1.

I use the starling distress call from foxpro. whenever they get a little call shy, I play a feeding call on my phone.

I have never ate them, but I have friends who do. they say they're not that bad.

my goal was to kill 1000 last year. I came up short at 656, not bad for trying to figure this out. I'm already at about 302 this year.

I watched a starling swoop down to the pavement while I was behind a garbage truck, feeding frantically on something.
It turned out to be maggots which were dripping out of the hot, wet garbage.
Bon appetit.

Are you selling them? My fur buyer was buying them for several years, may still be.

I never counted total harvest in a year, but my record was 18 with one shot!
