We feed a combination of seeds, many already listed. We have a pair of Pileated wood peckers that hammer away daily.

Every afternoon the turkeys come through and clean up what they want. It's fun seeing them take after the squirrels and claim the area.

The tube feeder with sunflower seeds comes in every evening. If it is forgotten the deer swing by and stand on there hind legs and proceed to empty it.

Many hours of entertainment looking out the window and reading the forum.

Just for the fun of it I took a muffin tin with 6 compartments and put in, peanuts, white millet, meal worms, dog food, shell corn, and pigeon food just to see what goes first. No bread or Black sunflower seeds. Put out after dark, we will see in the morning. I am thinking of making some seed blocks, not suit blocks.

I drilled holes in a rough cut 2x4 fill them with lard and peanut butter got tired of paying 60 cents to a dollar for suet cakes which are mostly cracked corn an millet woodpeckers nuthatches and chick a dees love it

Peel a fat skunk carcass in the middle of winter and hang it out for the birds they really work that thick layer of fat over when it’s cold.

Would an opossum work?

I made suet balls this year with bear fat and seed. Took half a day to render the fat down on the wood stove but the birds love it

Getting There: I made 'Seed Blocks' ~ if what I did is what you're asking about? Using melted beef dripping and food blender ground peanuts.

Thing is to fork the lot up as ye add the hot, liquid dripping to the nut powder. Otherwise, it doesn't penetrate and ye end up with a ton of peanut dust in the middle.

Had a Red-Tail hawk after a squirrel at my bird feeder this morning, the a couple of crow ran her off. Out neighbor sent us a picture of a Cooper's Hawk eating on chicken bones she put out for a feral cat.

We don't usually have grackles in the winter either. For the last few days it's been common to see 20 to 30 at one time. They will clean out the feeder in 1 day.

Drove by a sparrow hawk today working over something on a fence post.

We feed the red squirrels LEAD, they love it.

As they should be, they will chew to get into your home if left unchecked. JMO

Getting snow and wind tonight, I will have to get up early and shovel out for the ground feeder in the morning. Seed cakes are not working out for me. There is no advantage for me. JMO
