I have a 05 foreman and they are a bigger machine than a rancher. Both are good machines. My 05 has over 18,000 miles on it, and I never walked back to the pickup.

They are great machines until you have to do some work on the transmission. You have to remove the entire powerplant and split the cases. The shifter fork is too light and you can bend it very easily by stomping on the foot shift. My Forman was about 10 years old and wasn't worth the stupid $$ they wanted to fix it. Of course no one other than a certified Honda dealer would touch it as you needed the "special " tools to fix it. You could drive it but don't get it stuck in between 1st and 2nd as it can be a real pain to get out. Otherwise great machine.

04 Foreman here a bigger engine then the Rancher had, with in and out 4 wheel drive mine I need to shift it, not sure about the Rancher. I don’t use mine a lot mostly for spraying weeds and wet times trapping when I don’t want to rip up the roads with my truck.
Now that 450cc is considered a smaller motor compared to the newer engines. I’m looking at tracks for mine but $3,000 is spendy for a 04 machine but if handy enough it might be worth it.

X2 ^^^ Small enough to get through the tight spots, light enough to get un stuck, and the best 4x4 ATV bare none. I had a Foreman 450S which isn't a bad machine, but sold it and bought a used 300 and pocketed the difference.

I have. 18 Rubicon, I like it, and work it hard, firewood, snow plowing, horse feeding. Lots of power. If I was just going to play in woods , smaller unit is fine. I do like power steering, independent suspension.

I've got an 04 rancher. Had it for years. It just keeps going and going. Never been around a Foreman, but I'd say whichever Honda you get will make you happy. If I did a lot of pulling or off road stuff, the bigger one would make sense, but mine works great for me. It's had 2 adults on it, a deer on the front rack and dragging another one and didn't struggle with it ditto, mines an 02.keeps on tickin

I bought a Rancher in 2012. The first dealership where I looked sell Polaris, Yamaha, and Honda. The sales lady, who at the time worked there for 16 years told me..."of the three brands, Polaris is in the shop by far the most, you see an occasional Yamaha in the shop, but you NEVER see a Honda in the shop."
Rancher or Foreman, you can't go wrong with either one, just depends on how much size and power you need. IMO, you're buying the right brand.
