Checking the line this morning I got my first double front foot Yote on a NoBS K9 jr. Weird thing is that both feet were toe catches. I'm trying to figure out how this happened. The pan tension was 3.75 lbs. The trap only had about 1/8th inch of dirt over it so it wasn't bedded too deep. Any Ideas?

I’ve always assumed most double front foot catches start with one foot within the jaws but not compressing the pan. Then they shift the second foot and place it next to the first, stepping on the pan. I suppose it would take a number of specific things to happen to only catch toes on both.

It’s caught. Reset and catch another. Since you are pondering...ever caught a possum by his tail? If you figure yours out you can concentrate on mine.

For sure, it's caught that is all that matters. Just trying to rationalize why, you figure 2 feet he must have been committed. No I've never caught a possum by it's tail, that's mind boggling.

What kind of set? Was the trap offset or dead center? The only actual response to your question seems reasonable enough.

it was a dirt hole set, backstop was a rock about the size of a football, trap was placed 9 inches in front of the hole and about 1.5 inches to the left of the hole. I get why double foot catches happen, just wondering why they were TOE catches. You figure if both feet are down, he's very committed to the set. I've never had toe catches before this one.

If you have ever watched a fox hunting mice in the snow, you see how they pounce on their target. I can't prove it but believe it may have pounced on your set but landed both feet on one of the jaws and set off the trap. Had it been centered more on the pan then you would have had a pad catch vs. a toe. JMO

This is the most likely idea of what happened so far, I didn't know that you could set off a dogless by pouncing on the loose jaw. Good to know.

I don't think my theory works very will with the double hind foot catch.

Apparently they think a lot of my sets, lol. I get pics all the time of them dumping around my sets before investigating and sometimes getting caught.
