It's pretty satisfying to stretch the limits on a gun and succeed. I'd like to try this with my .45 and see if I can duplicate it... I'm about twice Wolfdog's age. And my eyes were never super keen to begin with. But Mike Beliveau has a couple decades on me so I think I can do it.
Added FYI, the story goes that Timothy Murphy shot the British general from about 300 yards while up in a tree. So he probably had a "rest" and it still took him 2 or 3 shots to knock the general off of his horse.
Can't wait for nice weather.

I had heard of swivel breech guns... But that is the first one I've seen in action.

they were flip barrel flint locks , a rifled and a smooth he got him on the 3rd round , the horse was hit with round 2 the 3rd shot was actually some one else rifle as I heard it but they were running very similar flip barrel rifles and loads.
the 250 yard shot
The Morgan shingle at 250 paces figure about the size of a sheet of paper maybe more like a legal pad , 1 round clean cold bore to hit it
hit your in the rifle company , miss and Ol Gorge will have you in his infantry 60 fired , 60 hits , the 61st man never got a chance Morgan Had his rifle company.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
I agree I wish I could find 22lr decent now , I think most of the time I could actually be happy just playing 22s when you get between 100 and 200 and you start having to make wind calls , it is good training.
Try out some pcp pellet guns.. you will be blown away on what can be don with them.
I have spent some time shooting air rifle 3 position , If I do my part 5 rounds one ragged hole 10meters . I never did get much into distance with the pellet guns
had to work this weekend and I have a lot of beef to cut and pack next weekend , I plan to get to the range but will be playing with my 45 cal Kentucky I think I will see if I can stretch it to 200 yards decent.
once I have that maybe the 250 yard morgan shingle shot would be fun

Nice!! I can see the rear sight, front sight, and the target. Just can't see em all at the same time anymore
If you are able to focus on the front site, you have got it made. The target is supposed to be blurry if you are doing it right. The key to good marksmanship with iron sites is to line up the front site within the rear site with a clear picture of the front site which will result in a blurry picture of the target.
