Just about out of my favorite turkey load. I have run the old school Remington Nitro Magnum buffered shot shells for years and years. They pattern great out of my gun, and 870 with a 21" barrel and extra full Rem-choke.

I was running the 3", 1 7/8 oz. number 4's.

Can't find these shells anywhere, and I started looking about 8 months ago.

With Remington gone, I doubt I will find them anywhere.

Any suggestions on a good replacement? I really don't want to spend $5 a shell for those fancy turkey loads.

They are still going to be making Remington ammo. You may not find them before spring turkey season though.

Ditch the old lead turkey loads and try the new heavy shot loads, the federal sst’s are amazing ( expensive but amazing ) . I’ve shot Winchester #5’s for years putting less than 20 pellets in the target and that was as good as I had found at 40 yards. Last year I shot the Hornady heavy’s and doubled my pellet count.
This past weekend my friend Julie shot her 20 ga. at 26 yards with the SST’ s and put 84 pellets in the targets kill area , very impressive.

Try lead 8 or 9 shot at 26 yards it does the same but it doesn't have the long range energy, but that being said if u do your job calling u can use a skeet load

Truth!!

However, if you’re getting less than 30 in the kill zone with a high end shell, I’d recommend switching chokes. My gun used to put well over 300 in a 10” circle at 40 yards. Just throwing that out there.

I keep desperately hoping that one day someone will call me "Sir" without adding "please calm down" or "you're causing a scene."

Try the Federal 3D if you have extra money to spend they work well.

Before I pay for those high end shells I'll switch to my flintlock fowler. I've got plenty of powder and shot for that. I'd rather limit my range than pay those crazy prices.

Your probably looking for 12 guage but Im looking at a box of winchester 3" #4 copperplated lead shot in my 20 gauge ammo bag along with some federal turkey loads and Kneet fasteel in 3" #4. The fasteel came from cabelas last year. Cant remember the source or price of the win's and feds.

Based upon my experiance with them I think you'd like the 3" Fiocchi Golden Pheasant loads. Look them up and see the reviews.

Can’t imagine the turkeys lost in this post. Y’all duck hunting or shooting turkeys? Before we started rolling our own TSS (#9) we were shooting 7.5 Hevi13. Less that 200 pellets in the kill zone means the barrel needed cleaning or a new choke. I like watching the red mist after a shot or decapitation on the closer shots. Most of my shots are 25-35. I don’t like close shots...too much room for error, might as well be shooting a rifle.

What do you mean by lost wannabe? I've recovered every bird I've shot the last 20 years. I've had to pass on turkeys that didn't come into my range, but that's my choice and how I choose to hunt.

I use to shoot those remington nitro 3" #5 1 7/8 oz . Loads and killed quite a few birds with them in my remington 11-87. But when I upgraded to a Winchester sx3 they still shot well but the federal 3" mag-shok #5 2oz . Copper plated did amazing. I've stoned turkeys 40 to 50 yards out. $17.99 for a box of 10. Pick up some box up at gander mountain when they were going out of business for about half that and I'm glad I did because they discontinued them. I got probably 4 boxes left so I'm good for a long time but before I spend 5 or 10 dollars a shot I'll just use highbrass #6s and wait for them to get closer. I would have given you the 2 and half boxes of my nitro's but a friend of mine already took them.
