Got a batch of birds....started laying last October. Got 10 in a nice coop. I’ve had chickens for 20 years prior....but Nevah had a Broody Chicksn before. This thing will sit on the nest ,with no eggs under her...won’t go out ,when the door is opened. We have taken her out of the nest and moved her up and down to wake her up....then she joins the rest of them for a while....then it’s the same thing all ovah again. Any suggestions? Thanks .

I just keep taking the eggs and take her out of the nest. The last one only took about a week and she gave up on it.

You can isolate them and break them of their broodiness. We’ve successfully done it several times.
Eh...wot?

Well, I can tell you the mean trick we pulled on a broody hen once. We ran over a pheasant nest in a field and put the surviving eggs under her. She hatched out about 8 ringneck chicks that from day one they did not pay any attention to her clucking at all and just did whatever they wanted.
I think she needed a chicken psychiatrist.

So long as you have a rooster to fertilize the eggs always nice to have one sitting.

Segregate her in a wire bottomed cage, no roost, in a cool area. The idea to to break the brood heat. Had to do this with two different hens last summer. Worked fine. Actually used a metal bottomed dog kennel.

Yep, we use an old rabbit hutch (wire bottom) to segregate and cool them off.
Eh...wot?

Before you start talking segregation...........what color is the chicken? Sounds like it's going to be golden brown

Let her hatch out some chicks. Its always nice to have a hen do all the work for you. No worrying about incubators or the post office killing your chicks. Food and water and she will do the rest.
If you need some fertilized eggs I can send you a dozen free of charge. My chickens are all mutts which makes it kind of interesting seeing how the chicks turn out.
