Adding some pit pans to a members jump traps and I've never really messed with them too much so I a little confused here, for y'all who use these alot does this look right? The dog looks "off to me" I mean it holds tension and goes off just fine

Might bend the cross piece in a little to level the pan a hair... Otherwise if you have good pan tension and a clean break it looks good to go.

If you get the pan too low the spring will hit it on the way up... Just get as level as you can without causing too much interference.

Almost looks like it might have been night latched where an extra notch is filed into the pan.

The rod dogs have a notch on the end for a night latch... It's on the correct way.

I do close the loop on the dog until it starts to bind, then back it off a hair. It might get him an 1/8" lower.

Can you use a heavy duty flat dog and flip it over? You could file a night latch into the flat dog. Some of the older jump traps had dogs that were flipped.

You can buy straight non-nitelatched rod dogs
And seeing how you offset those jumps, you can nitelatch it yourself to be upside down
That will solve you problem.

Looks like that side of the frame is bent up to me.

Like Mike In a Town originally posted. bend the crosspiece that the dog is attached to in a little bit and that will lower and level your pan. You should not have to do anything to the dog.

pinch the loop in the dog closed first thing. you dont want that dog to move any direction but up and down. then go from there.

Wolfie did you spot weld the bracket for the dog on the frame? Looks to me like it needs to slide away from the center of the trap a little. Then pinch the loop on the dog shut some. Then bend the frame of the trap that the dog is attached to away from the pan some. All this will get your dog and pan setting level.
