She has two left handed 1100's, a 12ga trap and a full size frame 20 with extra barrels. The bows were fairly easy, I worked in an archery shop. Her rifle is a Marlin 336. I need to get busy and come up with a left handed bolt gun which will be a 700.

Cross eye dominance occurs in about 10% of the male population, 15% of the female and athlete population, both male and female. So it's not really an uncommon thing.

Take it one step further and have her shoot left handed but bolt right handed. Ha. I've only bought one left handed bolt makes things interesting.

I've lifted my head and shot over turkey...more than once. The first time it happened I was in disbelief. How can you miss a twenty-pound bird standing twenty-five yards in front of you I wondered? I pieced it together from the pellet pattern in the vegetation two feet over where his head would have been. It's not a good feeling.

I was shooting a stock Remington 870 with the receiver groove and front bead. I considered a Red Dot but installed TRUGLO fiber-optic rifle style sights instead. I haven't shot over one since (knock on wood).

I agree with the others that shooting trap with a Red Dot would be difficult.

Eh...wot?

I'm not sure about a red dot sight, but I used to shoot trap with a holo sight on my BT100. It took some getting used to, but I did like it

Using a red dot, my guess is she will be low and behind the target more often than not in trap. The tendance will be to aim (putting the dot on the bird) rather than leading it.

The matt marking tape on the glasses really works for opposite dominate hand shooters.

A little bit off topic, but applicable I believe. I have a red dot scope on a Ruger 44 Magnum carbine which I have used for shooting running deer when necessary. It works like a charm. Both eyes open. The red dot forces focus on the right eye. Just like with a shotgun without a sight, you pull through the target and slap the trigger as the red dot passes the intended part of the target you wish to impact. Follow through is required just as it is with a shotgun.

I say no to a red dot for trap shooting. theres several tricks to overcome dominate hand vs dominate eye issues. You should be shooting with both eyes open, and shouldnt be looking at the beads. I broke the front bead off an 870 TC and still broke a 94 out of a hundred, certainly not my highest score, but shows you shouldnt be "looking" at the beads.
