Looks like the future contracts for May were down to about 4.10$ today
I did call around today about copper scrap prices and found huge differences in price. Locally the price for #1 was from 2.00 to 2.40 a pound. If I hauled it 140 miles south the price went up to 3.46.. If I hauled it 90 miles east the price was 3.30 a pound....

The place I take non-ferrous here is showing $2.45 to $2.85, the top for bare bright. I had a jig sort of like the OP made except mine was lower tech with a machine screw protruding into a larger hole drilled into a piece of board. C-clamped the board to the end of the work bench (or put it in a vice) and score the insulation while pulling the wire through it. I think it fell behind the big pile at the end of the work bench. I better dig it out this weekend and strip some wire and find more Cu. Way better than the scrap depression last year...

Scrap yards around here won't accept burnt off wire anymore. Must be stripped.

You are correct in that the site I listed is for mining futures and not what to expect at a salvage yard. Just a barometer but the last time the price was this high was a little past 2010.
