Very interesting podcast on macv-sog operations during the viet-nam war.

A friend of mine who served in Vietnam told me 30 yrs ago that he knew there were times they definitely were not in Vietnam but he wasn't sure where they were.

I knew a guy that told my bil, some horrible things. Outside of Nam. He peed and poo'd in his pants for days to achieve the objective. I think a lot went on that we'll never know about.

They definitely operated teams outside of nam, if you want to know more watch the podcast.

John Plaster wrote two good books about this subject. Secret Commandos and SOG a photo history.
There is a great book called Reflections of a Warrior by Franklin. D Miller, who won the Medal of Honor, the Silver Star, Bronze Star and eight or so purple hearts.

Heard a few stories from my dad about about Cambodia

My ex wifes uncle was killed in one of those over the border missions.

This guy (James A. Kuiken-Sgt. Major) did that Pow extraction stuff in the 70's and has some good reads out now too.

Nam was a nasty, nasty war! I have utmost respect for our countrymen who served in it. I remember our old mechanic saying he had a friend who was in Nam. Said they would be on guard and see a vietcong soldier completely wrapped in gauze running towards them. They would send tracer rounds through him as he ran until eventually he would fall. The Vietcongs objective with this was to get the soldier as close as he could to our boys to do as much damage as possible before he bled out.

Yes wrapped, and hyped up sappers could take a lot of rounds and with their young lithe bodies they could get through a lot of perimeter wire as well.

Dad said they crossed borders all which ways to get our guys out....or in.
He was a radioman. Worked with several different units. They had him learn Vietnamese too. to intercept their radio transmissions so we’d have an idea of their plans before they did it.
His 3rd and final war during his 34 yr Army career.

I've heard a lot of stories from my brother. I have a DVD with hundreds, if not thousands of pics he took while over there. Khe Sanh is less than ten miles from the Laotian border.

Knew a guy that was sent in to train the Montagnards, He never knew exactly where he was, and lived with the tribesmen.. He was only about 5' 2" but he said that was still a head taller then the M's , said it sucked walking through the jungle trails as his head was the only one exposed...
He also mentioned that they were very jealous with their wife's ,which didn't bother him, as he said, even after months living with them, the women were still ugly.....

Going up we had a deer camp with 25-30guys in camp. All but 1 adult were veterans with most being Vietnam Vets. My father and 16 of his close friends all enlisted knowing almost for certain they would end up drafted anyway. By the grace of God they all came home. With all of them coming home close to each other they were their own support group. Two of those men in camp were Green Berets and told many stories about operations outside the lines so to speak. One of those two was a 3 time purple heart recipient and a man I looked up to my entire life. The stories I heard around the card table at night. I'd just sit on the couch like a fly on the wall and listen.
