Sold my Dad's '06 Chevy 1/2 ton for $4100 this Jan.
2wd, 8ft box, extended cab and only 54,000 miles.
Big scratch/gouge all along the drivers side other than that it was in very good shape.

Would of sold for a lot more but no 4wd. Don't get stuck on 4wd. You can get by without. I drove 2wd pickups for years in conditions that now everyone claims they have to have 4wd.
4wd is a negative for 95% of the driving thats done with pickups. It adds weight, hurts gas mileage, costs more to buy and maintain. The key to getting around in snow and ice is traction, do what you can to increase traction with 2wd and you can do better than 99% of the 4wd trucks out there in the next snow/ice storm.

I have little use for a pickup myself so I declined taking my Dad's truck. Plus it had an extended cab which to me was a big negative, made the whole truck too long and harder to park/drive.

Invest in quality tires for snow/ice and a set of tire chains and you'll be fine with 2wd.

We are seeing high price on used trucks for several reasons.
1) there lots willing to spend well over 50K for a truck.
2) too few are willing to buy base model trucks and even few are pushing for cheaper simpler less expensive trucks.
3) There is a demand for pickups, even tho the vast majority of the owners don't have a need for them, its a want.
4) Mfg's see the demand for more and higher priced trucks and continually push the envelope up in accessories and options and thus the prices.

For someone who needs a working vehicle I'd advise a utility van. There are lots of them in the used market. They are base models made for work so they aren't loaded up with options that increase the cost and complexity of keeping them running.
And they can haul more stuff than any pickup out there. I have owned 1 ton GMC van that was an extended length one, NOTHING has more cargo room than a work/utility van. Next is a minivan.

Do some thinking about what you need and what you can do without and don't let emotion drive your choices.

I halled deer in my honda accord trunk, back floor board of a Ford probe, hood of 85 Chevrolet cheviot, in several mini Van's, SUVs and trucks. Its possible if you want it to work with what you have.

The mini Van's are nice. Ok mileage can hall 4x8 plywood and 10 foot lumber, you don't have to lift deer very high to get them loaded, most can have a tow hitch installed so a basket on the back isn't hard to add. The are also affordable.

Small Toyota's run forever and are fairly affordable as well.

Heck I could fit 26 8' 2x4s in my 98 honda accord. It dosen't have to be a truck for sure.

Bought a 93 Toyota extended cab with bad motor . Ordered new motor from place in California shipped to Alaska $1400 . Installed with new fly wheel and belts and hoses runs great . Have probably $2800 in to it . New Toyota extended cab probably $ 48,000 not going to do it no way . I also have a 94 Toyota truck and to 89 Ford 250 all run good easy to maintain and cheap to fix and all work I can do my self . Plus insurance cheap . By older and fix up is my suggestion

PS I had it in to my local dealer every 3000 miles without fail for service. Have the records., It doesnt matter. DOdges new owner's are not honoring the old LIFETIME FOR ORIGINAL OWNER warranty. It was a promotion in that economic downturn 2007-2009 to get people to buy.

No, wear items are not covered under warranty. Like brake pads and exhaust, spark plugs dist cap, nope.
Barnes is correct in his statement.

Bust something in the "drive train" and you'll be covered.

Once a vehicle gets too old it is a money pit-you will be constantly changing out worn parts.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Look. i'm not making this up. I found out they are NOT honoring the warranty , for anything not just the water pump, when my water pump went out. I have no clue why you can't get that through your heads. Its not rocket science. I know what I bought and what Dodge will no longer honor. Here it is in black and white.

Fiat bought dodge and they are NOT standing behind those warranties.

Guess it was, Surprised tho.

Then is the issue of Chrysler being bought out. They should cover Chrysler's past commitments but in today's world, that's how most companies stay afloat.
Kinda like Ruger buying Marlin from Remington. Should Ruger have the responsibility of Remington wrongdoings?

With any business deal they know what they are buying and getting into therefore yes they also bought all the warranty contracts along with everything else.

Tell them you want a letter of arbitration then. FYI they don’t like it when you ask for one!!!
