Looking at getting the Sig Romeo5 red dot. Anyone have personal experience with them that might change my mind?

I've got 4 of them. I think they're hard to beat for the money. They have been going up in price, but if you catch a sale you can usually find them for about $130

I recently bought a used AR that came with a Red Dot. I haven't shot it yet but did order a new hand guard with a picatinny rail and offset iron sights in case I decide I like the Red Dot. I didn't like the idea of relying in the battery and having no way to sight if it went dead. The offset sights will allow me that option.

If I decide I don't like the Red Dot I'll swap it and the offset sights out for regular iron sights or possibly a scope.

Are the Red Dots accurate?

I put a Romeo 5 on my wife's AR pistol. She loves it. Yes, they're accurate. I've had several, it's like anything else, you get what you pay for

Look at a Burris AR 332. The reticle is etched so your sight works even when off/batteries fail. I'm sure there are others with etched reticles.

I put a Romeo-MSR green dot on the AR I purchased and it co-witnesses with the iron sights perfectly. They line up in a train and one doesn't impede the other at all. It seems that's the goal with most AR optics.

red dots are more fast than accurate

I run a Vortex spitfire Prism 1X it is very fast but I feel like 200 yards is getting to the extent of what I can see.

however it claims a 79 foot field of view at 100 yards I would have guest about 70-75 but the manual says 79.

the Vortex uses a 3 moa dot which if your trying for little groups at 100 yards well you better have a much larger target and center it so whatever the specs for any sight your looking at if it has a 3 , 5, 6 moa dot that dot is going to look like that many inches at 100 yards

the spitfire also has a bold ring 44moa and a thinner ring 120moa forgetting about the center dot and centering the target in the bold ring has given me better groups when sighting in

being a prism if the battery dies you still have a sight just black not red or green.

I have mine mounted on an AR pistol so the whole gun is basically to be light and fast although it will still ring steel well at 200 yards

I have a couple of the Romeo 5 and they are pretty good for the money. One of them is on an MKA 1919 AR 12 Gauge and it has held up well. I also have on on a Chipmunk 22 single shot pistol and it doesn't seem to hurt the accuracy.

Hey lugnut, a lot of the red dots, including the romeo 5 sit high enough that your sights will co witness, meanin you can use the sights looking through the "scope" and doesnt require offset sights. You may already know this but just FYI.

This is my first AR (other than the one Uncle Sam issued me) and I'm just stumbling my way through the learning curve.

The used AR I bought came "Optics Ready" from the factory meaning no open sights.

I have the Romeo 5 on a braced pistol and love it so far. Quick handling and long battery life. Love the "shake awake" feature.

I got a few field sport micro red dot sights. They are pretty accurate. Have one mounted on my ar 10 and one on my 8 mm mauser. For 25 bucks they last a while.

This is my first AR and I'm in the learning curve too. The recoil is more substantial than I was led to believe. It's not punishing but target reacquiscion isn't as easy as I thought it would be. I'm looking into a muzzle brake.

the AR stoner brake is an inexpensive way to make it flatter in the recoil cycle.

also grab it and pull it into your shoulder like it is a heavy recoiling rifle or shot gun
