The government giving away huge amounts of money causes inflation of the price of everything being bought with the huge amount of money. Money is only worth what you can purchase with it. It's better to make a small amount of money and be able to buy all you need then to make a huge amount of money and still not afford what you need. The democrats excited about the rise in minimum wage can't grasp that. Resources are limited.

The democrats idea is to print more money. We can’t borrow anymore. We are twenty some trillion in debt. Inflation is going to be unbearable. Wait until a can of soup is 20 bucks and a can of beans is 50. Or even if you have a huge amount of money and could pay those prices but there is nothing to buy.
The governments job is not to force employers to pay a certain wage. The governments job is not to stimulate the economy with stolen or printed money. It is to limit its involvement in our lives, get out of the way and let the economy do its job.

You are responsible for your outcome in life. Not the government. Not other people, you.

If you need more income, you need to find a way to make yourself more valuable. This can be thru education and experience or starting your own business. Not by the government forcing employers to pay you more. This will only lead to a lot of layoffs and people not worth 15$ an hour losing their jobs.

Life ain’t easy but it is what it is. Trust me I know.

I'm far from rich but if someone is not doing $15 worth of work an hour then they shouldn't be paid $15 an hour.

The more money they give away the less money is worth.

supply chain issues , fuel costs going up significantly. a lot of uncertainty in the economy and taxes.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Higher energy cost. Higher food costs. Hurt the poorest the most. All socialist policies. Their answer is to raise taxes. And redistribute the wealth. The higher the population they can get dependent on the government the more control they have. Democrats like big powerful government. Conservatives believe in freedom of the individual. That's how this country got to be the best and most powerful Nation the world has ever seen.

Coonman, you live by Dubuque and instead of driving the short distance to make more money at someplace like AY McDonald as a machinist you choose to stay at a place that pays you a lot less and treats you like crap. I think you like that place personally. I know you work 2 part time jobs. It's past time to get 1 full time job that pays more. The other job is custodial work and you say you like that so go be a cleaner full time.

Go put an application in at Hormel they're looking for workers so are a lot of other places. Iowajobs.org or Dubuque jobs

As far as burning up gas and putting more miles on a wore out truck trapping coon this year that's your fault. If you thought you'd make a profit doing that you're delusional. If you had a full time job and ran a short line on your way to or from work it would make sense. I get wanting to trap but not if it puts you in a financial hole.

Once again Good Luck I hope things turn around for you but you have to help yourself sometime.

Well said Badger - In thirty years of trapping I have never ran a trapline that lost money. I did exactly like you said. Ran traps to and from work. I love 3:00 AM mornings. Nice and peaceful in the great out-of-doors.

Milton Friedman always said inflation is created in Washington, well over 20 percent of all dollars created in the last 108 years was printed in the last 12 months.

Isn't hard to figure out prices are going up.

Good luck Dave we are all going to need it. Powell and the red just said they aren't concerned about rising prices yet

Get your weekly adds and go through them. I know you go to Walmart to get groceries but it is most likely the highest prices. Buy items that are on sale and buy enough to last you five weeks. The sale cycles are usually that long of a period in retail grocery. Example is bread. When it goes on sale and you eat a loaf a week then buy five loaves. If burger goes on sale buy what you need for five weeks. Look at those tabs(sales flyers) and focus on sale items. Look through all of them and then ask if they will price match other stores. Do not buy things from any end caps or bulk bins because they are a trap. Do not buy National brands but instead buy store brands. If you have an Aldi's to get your fruit ,veggies, eggs, and milk there because they are way cheaper. Plant a garden and can as much as you can. There are several ways to spend less on grub if you are not wanting to pay for convenience. Remember a lot of food stamps and ebt cards are used at Walmart and those folks don't care about higher prices because it is not their money but rather the taxpayer's. I worked retail as a merchandizer for years and it was my job to put higher priced products where it is convenient for you to grab and go. Hope this helps.

As for your 15 dollars an hour it is not going to happen but your 1400.00 will be in the account soon unfortunately. Put it away for a rainy day and don't spend it like it was not your money. After all it is not yours but my grandchildren's. LLL

Coonman, I just saw where Crown Holdings in Dubuque is looking for janitor/general laborer. You might want to check it out at least.

OK can you explain these shortages? The shortages I am seeing are from hoarding of stuff like lids and ammo. Shelves are full here and have been since May 2020. This economy is ready to explode and even with fuel prices they will be absorbed by consumers. We are not the USSR or N. Korea yet and I doubt we will get to that point in two years of liberal control. Some of this is a little over the top. LLL

A lot of shortages are caused by the changes made in the manufacturing processes over the last 25 years or so. "Just in time" manufacturing is very efficient until covid shuts down a plant that supplies an essential part, then the whole product assembly is affected.

I agree with that but covid is going away. Things around here are almost back to normal except for a few still wearing face diapers in their cars all alone. Still plenty of food in stores and I believe this is the shortages they are talking about. No bread lines here anyways. LLL

I never understood people complaining about how much (or little) they make. If what you earn is not up to your self imposed standards, then it's time YOU improve your skills so you can show you're worth more, or seek other employment. That should not be on the government (state or federal) to mandate a business to pay you more. What makes people think they are worth more anyway? I can't find enough people willing to work a full 8 hours, let alone actually be productive enough to justify what I pay them. When things got tight, my wife and I didn't complain. We started a side business from my hobby several years ago, and it has grown leaps and bounds. Doing so has given us the financial security many complain they don't have, but are too lazy to strive for. We had to make some serious sacrifices that most are not willing to do to get where we are.

As for rising prices, it sucks! Paying more for gas and groceries only cuts into the bottom line for most families, especially if they are only making minimum wage. I saved up and bought a farm where I can grow or raise the majority of what we consume. It's a lot work, don't get me wrong, but a little effort pays big dividends. Even when I had an apartment in town, I grew enough produce to make a substantial impact on my grocery bill, often times having enough excess to can. Instead of seeking handouts or wallowing in self pity, I wish folks would learn to help themselves!

If you were wise you would read my post and apply what I said. Convenience costs you money. Just like the advice I tried to give you on trapping coon this season I hope it don't fall on deaf ears but it probably will. LLL

Every Sunday my wife makes a meal for my parents. Usually something that will carry over a few times for them. She had me pick up a 4 pound chuck roast so she could make dripped beef. Cost was 24 bucks. I thought that was kinda high but couldn’t tell you what one cost a year ago. I think a lot of things are going to go up. I did notice the brand dog food we get was 50 bucks the other day. Think I was getting it for 40 bucks not to long ago.

It's been quite some time since I had an economics class, but I seem to remember, inflation rates do not include "variable priced consumer" goods. It is a function of the rising prices of durable goods like cars and refrigerators. Groceries and gas are not considered in inflation rates as far as Government is concerned.

Go buy your bread(.49 a loaf), milk($1.99-$2.49), butter($1.99), eggs($.99-$1.49), bananas, bacon, etc at your local Kwik Star. Cheapest around. Get their promo card and use every visit, has free items and use visits to save on gas. Earn credits buying milk to get free one. Like others said above, buy only items on sale. Hyvee is another store better than Walmart, use there fuel saver card. Last weekend was spend $50 earn $.25 a gallon off, for each $50 spent. Fareway is another good store.

Something always told my boys, it is not always what you make but what you spend, ask yourself do I need it or want it? What do you spend on electronics a month cable, smart phone or phones, computer, internet? Options, antenna tv, flip phone or phones, computer with hot spot or basic internet. If you need or insist on having a truck is heating with wood an option, deer meat hunting, or sign up if possible for road kill deer. Their not all bad. Process them to burger, or take boned out meat somewhere and have it ground for you. grow a good basic garden if possible, put it in the freezer or jars. If you don't need that truck then get a high mileage most dependable car you can afford. Learn from listening and watching others, both successful and unsuccessful ones, good lessons from both and if you are doing all the talking either verbally or in type you ain't listening.

Guys, coonman220 doesn’t want advice. He’s been posting complaints like this forever, yet refuses to do anything about his situation. I don’t feel sorry for him because he hasn’t done anything to solve any of his problems. He just gets on here and whines about it.

Why on earth would you double down on trapping spring beaver, pouring more expensive gas thru a beat up truck to run 35 miles for a few traps? Digging out of a hole is about making good decisions more than anything else. I missed the entire season in 2019. Did it suck? Yea but I survived. Today I look at missing a season as the reason I had money in my pocket later on to pay for something that we had to have.

Best wishes

Dave I would almost guarantee there is a machine shop near you looking for help. There are some machinist jobs where a lot of experience is not required. Such as a cnc operator. Machinist jobs pay pretty good and I bet it would be a lot easier than your factory job.

I don’t know him at all. I hate to make generalizations about people because you never really know a person’s situation.

Hopefully he’ll figure it out.

I truly hope he talks better than he writes though.

Coonman, you could work at Wal Mart 10p -7a and make $15.50 an hour stocking shelves. 4a-1p and 1p-10p pay is $14. You'd get an employee discount too. It'd be more profitable than trapping beaver this spring.

yep she has a degree though not in any medical profession but the very much training for EMT and it is updating constantly lots of liability also she works three jobs to make a decent mid income wage. State minimum wage is $5.50 and hour federal is I think $8.00 but not sure something need to change. The only high paying jobs are in the oil fields and those are gone now because of cheap oil. Dont come to Wyoming to make money thats for sure.

Ever think of moving to a place with better paying jobs? Working 3 jobs has to be tough and exhausting.

Dave-As far as food shopping goes, do you have an Aldi's near you? My wife and I do most of our food shipping there and it is unbelievable how much we save in comparison to WalMart of any of the other stores. For a long time we did not buy pork there but have found their pork and chicken prices very low with excellent quality.
Some other groceries are 1/2 or less than what we'd be paying in some of the grocery stores.

2160 Holiday Dr. in Dubuque IA. Moosetrot is right. Example: catsup Aldis $1.15 Heinz $3.50 and I'm picky about catsup, you can't taste the difference. Mayo Aldis $1.89 Hellmans $3.89 no difference other than price. Last week I bought a whole beef tenderloin for 7.99 a pound. The store a half a mile away was asking $12.00 for a 5oz piece. You have to bag your own groceries, big deal.

A penny saved is a penny earned. You can produce and put up your own food much cheaper than you can pay others to do it for you. That in reality is your second job and they haven't figured out a way to tax it yet.

My security company supplied guards for Aldis for many years. I've seen the pallets in the back with the paperwork on them. Almost everything they sell comes from the same major manufacturers who make all the most popular name brands in the US. We stock up at Aldis about once a month.

Chunk up and put some of those beaver in the freezer. They're good eating and plenty of simple recipes out there. 5 beaver is a good bit of meat. I was quoted $75 a # for castor today no grading. Did you get that shotgun? Put some bunnies in the freezer. Farm Markets have some good deals, put some food up when it's plentiful and cheap.

Me too upstate. There's times I get stuff for practically nothing and I have donated some to the local food bank because I tend to over buy.

Even Stevie Wonder can see that cancelling the XL pipeline was one of the dumbest things Biden could have done. Gas prices go up 20 to 30 cents a week. Now it costs more to ship the product so groceries go up. It is a vicious cycle. This administration is killing the country wake up people call your representatives and (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman). This must stop

I've been told that much of the crude oil storage facilities are still filled up--remember when the price of oil went "negative" for a while last year? The shoot up in gas prices has nothing to do with supply, it is because the companies CAN jack up the prices on pretense such as the freeze in TX and/or XL pipeline cancellation (how can that cause immediate increases in gas prices when its not even moving any oil...?). Sleepy Joe and his crew (or is it the crew and Sleepy Joe?) allow the prices to rise because its away to punish some people who don't back them. The big oil companies are becoming "woke" and will be in bed with the blue team (or any political team) because they stay tight with the politicians and can keep doing their thing. Its all smoke and mirrors...

Last I heard around Chistmas there was around 60% more dallars in existence than a yr ago. Guess what that means, your dallar is worth less.

Money is just a medium of exchange.
Anything that you can produce or provide for yourself will not require you to spend that money.
Demonetarize your life as much as is practical.
Save your money for taxes.

This is why I trap for meat and grow my own food, have been for years. This season ive put 4 deer, dozens of coons, a few rat, a mink, a fox, and a yote in my freezer, upon a good amount of fish. Excited for spring, many frogs to be gigged, chucks to be snared, and turtles to be trapped

$36/hr starting wage is 70k a year based on a 40 hr work week. Not too shabby. What do the union fees run?

Coonman doesn't have to move anywhere. Iowa has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, and there are plenty of jobs to be had right in his area.

Has anyone here met coonman 220 or know him? I more and more think he is a alter personality of another member here. Doing a little trolling for chits and giggles...Perhaps I am wrong. I have a hard working employee that writes like, and if I could imagine talking to coonman 220, talk like him. But my employee makes far better $$$ decisions, and actually is doing well for himself and his needs are met without any debt. Sometimes I wonder if Coonman 220 is real....But always the train wreck many of us fall for.

There are members here who claim with confidence that they've met and know him personally. And what you hear is what you get. I'd say he's just another member here who helps make this place as colorful as it is.

I've met him several times. I have is real name and address and have pictures of him. He always stirs up threads and gets a lot of information for people who may use it. Whether he chooses to take any of the advice himself, really makes no difference as likely someone reading it will be helped by it.

Never thought of it like that. Maybe he makes posts and continuously ignores and disregards all advice, unless it is what he wants to hear, so he can help others who may have the same problem or situation.

Maybe that’s it. Doing the Lords work if you will.

Well I can say I have never really seen a train wreck....But count my hunch as wrong...I still don't believe in Bigfoot though. On Coonman 220, I stand corrected.

Same here, but I have a pretty short list of who I won’t have a beer with.

Just go into it knowing you’ll have to pick up the check.

I would too, now that I know he is the real deal. I also bet his typing skills have nothing to do with a face to face conversation, or interaction. We all put our pants on one leg at a time.

Thanks Dan D. I'm married with a wife that has a good job and a mom she needs to be around for. Moving to Ohio isn't going to work for me and it's a little long to commute on weekends. It may help someone in a different situation though. What city in Ohio?

Hope you weren't drowsy from the exhaust leak, cops could've checked you and thought you were DUI.

Well, went into 'Wallyworld' to do some misc grocery shopping today. All the registers replaced by self checkout lanes. Flagged a attendant and said check this all out for me place. On the way out of the store passed a sign saying they are looking for late night stockers ... New pay scale ( wait for it ) .... $15.50/hr starting in April. And I thought $11.50 was generous! May have to reconsider retirement ... Lol

Yeah, $15.01 may have been too obvious for Wally World's new "wokeness"...

A local restaurant owner here can't get anyone to work. She did have one apply. She was 30 years old. Her mother (60 years old) stopped by for the application.

The mother retuned the application with the requests from the younger woman.

Demands: She would get $17.00/hour. Then the mother wanted to know if an interview need to be setup.

The lady who owns the store, said "I'll call you if need be"! grin

If I'm going to use self check out I want the option of being able to offer myself a 20% discount for being a momentary employee of the business.

Coonman yes he's right. Wal Mart stockers that work 10p-7a will start at $15.50 here effective March 15th The stockers on the 4a-1p and 1p-10p shifts start at $14.00 that's at the wal marts in Platteville and Prairie du Chien WI. The deli changed their starting wage to $15.00 a few months ago. I know a couple people that work there and know the parent of a stocker.

Coonman- you could be rollin' in dough before you know it. Make $15.50 by working all night, then trap $3 coon all day. You could get that exhaust leak fixed!

A businessman friend of mine in the food industry says it's easy for Walmart to attract employees. Apparently, as far as bottom feeder jobs, it's thought to be quite a bit easier work then say counter service at a fast food restaurant. You can hide in the isles and pretend your working all day at Walmart but you're under the microscope and hustling all day at Tim Horton's.

Sounds like Walmart has made a big change from the day they kept their limit of hours worked at 39 hours so they could keep them part time.

Sounds like Walmart has made a big change from the day they kept their limit of hours worked at 39 hours so they could keep them part time.

I think you mean 29 hours. Under Prez Barry Care, full-time was reduced to I believe 30 hours. If you were an employer with x number of employees, that was the break point in having to offer job-based health care. I don't think that has been changed...
