Get your weekly adds and go through them. I know you go to Walmart to get groceries but it is most likely the highest prices. Buy items that are on sale and buy enough to last you five weeks. The sale cycles are usually that long of a period in retail grocery. Example is bread. When it goes on sale and you eat a loaf a week then buy five loaves. If burger goes on sale buy what you need for five weeks. Look at those tabs(sales flyers) and focus on sale items. Look through all of them and then ask if they will price match other stores. Do not buy things from any end caps or bulk bins because they are a trap. Do not buy National brands but instead buy store brands. If you have an Aldi's to get your fruit ,veggies, eggs, and milk there because they are way cheaper. Plant a garden and can as much as you can. There are several ways to spend less on grub if you are not wanting to pay for convenience. Remember a lot of food stamps and ebt cards are used at Walmart and those folks don't care about higher prices because it is not their money but rather the taxpayer's. I worked retail as a merchandizer for years and it was my job to put higher priced products where it is convenient for you to grab and go. Hope this helps.

As for your 15 dollars an hour it is not going to happen but your 1400.00 will be in the account soon unfortunately. Put it away for a rainy day and don't spend it like it was not your money. After all it is not yours but my grandchildren's. LLL

Good post, Larry. Pay attention to what he says here Dave, and you can stretch your money a little further.

Coonman, I just saw where Crown Holdings in Dubuque is looking for janitor/general laborer. You might want to check it out at least.

OK can you explain these shortages? The shortages I am seeing are from hoarding of stuff like lids and ammo. Shelves are full here and have been since May 2020. This economy is ready to explode and even with fuel prices they will be absorbed by consumers. We are not the USSR or N. Korea yet and I doubt we will get to that point in two years of liberal control. Some of this is a little over the top. LLL

A lot of shortages are caused by the changes made in the manufacturing processes over the last 25 years or so. "Just in time" manufacturing is very efficient until covid shuts down a plant that supplies an essential part, then the whole product assembly is affected.

I agree with that but covid is going away. Things around here are almost back to normal except for a few still wearing face diapers in their cars all alone. Still plenty of food in stores and I believe this is the shortages they are talking about. No bread lines here anyways. LLL

I never understood people complaining about how much (or little) they make. If what you earn is not up to your self imposed standards, then it's time YOU improve your skills so you can show you're worth more, or seek other employment. That should not be on the government (state or federal) to mandate a business to pay you more. What makes people think they are worth more anyway? I can't find enough people willing to work a full 8 hours, let alone actually be productive enough to justify what I pay them. When things got tight, my wife and I didn't complain. We started a side business from my hobby several years ago, and it has grown leaps and bounds. Doing so has given us the financial security many complain they don't have, but are too lazy to strive for. We had to make some serious sacrifices that most are not willing to do to get where we are.

As for rising prices, it sucks! Paying more for gas and groceries only cuts into the bottom line for most families, especially if they are only making minimum wage. I saved up and bought a farm where I can grow or raise the majority of what we consume. It's a lot work, don't get me wrong, but a little effort pays big dividends. Even when I had an apartment in town, I grew enough produce to make a substantial impact on my grocery bill, often times having enough excess to can. Instead of seeking handouts or wallowing in self pity, I wish folks would learn to help themselves!

If you were wise you would read my post and apply what I said. Convenience costs you money. Just like the advice I tried to give you on trapping coon this season I hope it don't fall on deaf ears but it probably will. LLL

Every Sunday my wife makes a meal for my parents. Usually something that will carry over a few times for them. She had me pick up a 4 pound chuck roast so she could make dripped beef. Cost was 24 bucks. I thought that was kinda high but couldn’t tell you what one cost a year ago. I think a lot of things are going to go up. I did notice the brand dog food we get was 50 bucks the other day. Think I was getting it for 40 bucks not to long ago.

It's been quite some time since I had an economics class, but I seem to remember, inflation rates do not include "variable priced consumer" goods. It is a function of the rising prices of durable goods like cars and refrigerators. Groceries and gas are not considered in inflation rates as far as Government is concerned.

Go buy your bread(.49 a loaf), milk($1.99-$2.49), butter($1.99), eggs($.99-$1.49), bananas, bacon, etc at your local Kwik Star. Cheapest around. Get their promo card and use every visit, has free items and use visits to save on gas. Earn credits buying milk to get free one. Like others said above, buy only items on sale. Hyvee is another store better than Walmart, use there fuel saver card. Last weekend was spend $50 earn $.25 a gallon off, for each $50 spent. Fareway is another good store.

We are not like Venezuela yet but could be headed that way. Have a plan and be ready to scrounge to live. We are talking garbage dumps and so on.

Something always told my boys, it is not always what you make but what you spend, ask yourself do I need it or want it? What do you spend on electronics a month cable, smart phone or phones, computer, internet? Options, antenna tv, flip phone or phones, computer with hot spot or basic internet. If you need or insist on having a truck is heating with wood an option, deer meat hunting, or sign up if possible for road kill deer. Their not all bad. Process them to burger, or take boned out meat somewhere and have it ground for you. grow a good basic garden if possible, put it in the freezer or jars. If you don't need that truck then get a high mileage most dependable car you can afford. Learn from listening and watching others, both successful and unsuccessful ones, good lessons from both and if you are doing all the talking either verbally or in type you ain't listening.

Guys, coonman220 doesn’t want advice. He’s been posting complaints like this forever, yet refuses to do anything about his situation. I don’t feel sorry for him because he hasn’t done anything to solve any of his problems. He just gets on here and whines about it.

Why on earth would you double down on trapping spring beaver, pouring more expensive gas thru a beat up truck to run 35 miles for a few traps? Digging out of a hole is about making good decisions more than anything else. I missed the entire season in 2019. Did it suck? Yea but I survived. Today I look at missing a season as the reason I had money in my pocket later on to pay for something that we had to have.

Best wishes
