Saw that. Read "The Long Winter" by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

I don't complain about winter too much because here we haven't had a really rough one in 40 years.

Volcano in Indonesia spewed enough ash to block sunshine that winter. The explosion was 1300 times as powerful as the Hiroshima bomb and was heard in 10% of the world. Loudest noise in history.

I don't complain about winter either , it really isn't long or hard here.

I know southerners would think first snow about Halloween last snow in April or first days of may

it really isn't bad

Happened again in 1947. My sister was 3 months old when it hit.

Happened again in 1948.

Now that we don't have as much access to 'fossil fuels', we are headed for another round.

Wind generators with icicles hanging on the blades , and solar panels covered in snow are NOT the answer.

1978-79 we got a lot of snows

the fire department was checking on people around town by snowmobile they said they didn't even realize they had just driven over a parked car till they came down the back and they could see the rear window peaking out.

always a months food
a tank full of oil for the furnace by September and a shed full of wood by June.

don't let your gas tank below half fill up if there is a storm coming , always a few gallons of gas in the garage ti run the snow blower

my parents and grand parents had wood stoves , I have a wood stove .

no one called it prepping to have a full freezer and root cellar , it was just smart to have food stored and a drawer that kept the over the counter medicines to get you through a night.

the last store in town closed at 9 then the sidewalks get rolled up and you don't go anywhere other than the hospital ER 20 mile away till morning

a bottle of Tussin , some benadryl , cortozone , asprin , ibuprofine , bandages to handle anything that doesn't need stitches

I have added to this list , a bottle glue - it is great for burns that are blistering.

if your a little prepared not everything has to be an emergency
