I see there are a few people that post their vehicles they own. When I was much younger I had a few vintage cars and trucks. None were considered vintage at the time. They were just old vehicles that were used but had life left in them and were cheap to buy. My first car was a Corvair and it was given to me. I owned a 1960's Ford Fairlane that a friend of the family fixed it up and sold it to me. Looking back on it I did I not realize it then but it was to be sold to me because I needed a good car and did not have lots of funds. I had a Pontiac GTO and it burned a lot of oil. When I moved to Montana I traveled across country in a 1953 International pickup and used that till I blew the engine. A older friend of the family sold me his 1960's Ford truck and I used that for a couple years trapping. I still have a 1970's dodge ram that I use for a plow truck. I have been shopping the west for a couple years for the right old truck to buy just to have another. I really don't care for a restored one or one that's a rust bucket. My son thinks I should buy a older classic sports car because it would be better investment. Now this vehicle is gonna be mostly a Sunday driver. Do you have an opinion? I know buy what you like and can afford but that's not really the issue. Its pretty hard to find what I am looking for at a fair price. If I had found it I would already own it.

What’s you dream vehicle and go for it, if it’s about transportation buy what you think is a deal then. Me I like the old mini trucks D50/Mighty Max types I bought 3 to rebuild them into one truck cost about 5 grand to do it. I do the mechanical work myself I dropped a good frame in the driveway and it took 3 months to build the truck I wanted.

I gave up on older cars.

Finding parts is hard, quality parts that is, lots of repo parts out there but most of them are one step away from junk and some parts are non existent.

Every spring when I drove for the first time there were often issues. Carb stuff, brake stuff little odds and ends. Nothing too major or hard to fix but a car that sits for 6 month of the year is a bad situation. Always best to drive them, cars don't take well to sitting unused.

If you crave attention you might like it, me I hated the constant ignorant stupid people that would come up to you and start spouting off about how Dad had one just like mine but Dads was the ultra rare super duper one with triple race cams and turbo flow space shuttle heads.

I’ve had this 67 GTO for 6 years....I get many smiles to the gallon. Bought it as a driver....and do a little to it each year,,,but always drive it each year. The trick is to Nevah take them apart too Far,and the enjoyment factor stays high.

I’ve had my 72 Chevelle for 20 years, ( I’m the third owner ), and a 70 SS since 2004. I actually ran into the original owner of the 72....he recognized the aftermarket rims on it. In the glove box, there was his name on the credit card looking warranty card that Chevrolet used back in the day.

"What’s you dream vehicle and go for it?" Have 2- Rolls Royce because when I was a child I admired the lawyer in my small town. He always drove one. I was so poor that dirt tasted good. But people have told me the maintenance costs are very high and its difficult to work on.#2 A woody wagon because again when I was a child I used to walk by an elderly couples barn and I would stop and peak thru the boards at it. But I would not want one that was restored.

Get something old, but modernize it for better reliability. Ice got a 77 f150, but I'm putting in a fuel injected engine from an 87 grand marquis. Whatever you get, think of making it fuel injected, modern transmission, 4 wheel 2-circuit disc brakes, high amp alternator, serpentine drive belt, urethane suspension bushings, etc. Modernize whatever you can, so that you don't have to fiddle with it all the time. Just hop in and go.

I want something that's all original. I do want something that's custom. It's just what I like that's why its been so hard to find something. Really what I would like is an 1950's ford or chevy pickup with the original name of the business on the door. All matching numbers.

What about vintage boats? I grew up spending summers on a lake burning countless hour of gas, fishing, swimming, skiing and chasing girls. In the 60's and 70's there were lots of hot rod boats and I would try and follow them in my fishing boat with a 9 1/2 johnson on it. The sound was amazing when you followed one through a channel back to a marina, big blocks with headers on water, always thought the v-drive drag boats were so cool. Bought this because of the new green deal, restored 1974 hull, (the year I graduated high school) Rayson-Craft v-drive with a bored and stroked 489 big block chevy. Talk about an adrenaline rush, sitting next to 800 horse in an 18 foot boat will make your spidy senses perk up. It was restored by a friend that I used to race boats with.

Ford didn't do the matching numbers thing, there's nothing stamped on the engine or transmission that can be traced back to the vin. That makes it a lot easier. For example, if your truck had an inline 6, any inline six would work and look original. Or you could put in a different engine that was available during your model year, and it would still look original. For example, you could go from an inline 6 to a 390.

It not an intention thing rather a something to enjoy. I don't have any toys. I lived all my life on a very minimal existence using all the money I had to support my family. I can relate to stupid people. My son and I would set up at local gun shows and all some of these people would talk about was reloading. I can appreciate reloading but if I want something to eat I buy a good quality box of ammo and go hunting.
