Call up to North Bay and they will email you what sold and for what price. LLL I called and emailed. On the phone I was told some coons sold. The email has not been answered. My account is still not updated. like I said I did not trap much in the 19-20 season either. That is the fur they have and that they sold. It would have been nice to have gotten a paper receipt as to what sold with the check if they are not going to up date my account on line. Ask for Cheryl Boissonneau. She emailed it to me right away while we were on the phone. LLL

Uh you can make money trapping....? I made a good living ADC trapping. Best way to make $ fur trapping is to have them tanned and sell to Native Americans at their Pow-Wow’s if they let ya be a vendor. Some don’t let whites vend. Sad that the glands and claws and teeth/skull value are as good or better than fur values.

I started trapping in the early 1950s and then trapped mink alone because that is what we had. Later as i became more proficient and better equipped I became a "money trapper' as i have described myself on many occasions. My goal each year was to maximize my financial return by trapping whatever animals I thought would achieve the goal. I had equipment and knowledge that permitted me to shift from species to species, among those that lived where I lived. I studied markets thoroughly each year and by early fall had developed a plan that I thought would give me the best chance to achieve my goal, As my annual trapping produced fur, I marketed through auction houses, first to Hudson Bay in Winnipeg, later to successor Canadian auctions, when I thought that they offered better returns than local markets which I often used also. I often held fur from season to season if markets softened seasonally. I did not guess correctly every year but certainly came out far ahead over a 50 year window by informed selection of which species to target, careful fur handling and informed marketing. In the current markets and at my advanced age, there is no way that I could even break even so I have not set traps the last two seasons. Today, the only animal that I could still catch decent numbers of are raccoons and even if I could still take a few hundred each season, their pelt values would not cover my gas bill.. All those skills had economic value. They were guarded from one's economic competitors. Now those skills are useless and given away to create more competitors that flood the market perpetually with valueless fur keeping fur prices below production costs for years . This system feeds itself and will eventually lead to the death of fur trapping. Good thing there are lots of different hobbies to switch to for these people when it folds up.

Trapping paid for Christmas for about 40 years and the engagement ring for my second wife in 97. Was averaging 20 for carcass coon and stacking them up. That was back a while ago. When I moved to my mini farm in 2003 I thought I’d trap more but ended up growing pumpkins that was also fun and more profitable. Doubt I could have much of a Christmas at today’s prices even trapping hard. Fall decorations have taken off in popularity and price however.

All I can say, it pays better than duck hunting. Fact Around here ducks have meat value. Don't cost very much to access or shoot them.

This year trapping beat me up. I probably still made a profit at the end of it, but the crap I went through for it was not fun. Look forward to doing it all over again in 7 months.

I have always treated trapping as a business and made a profit at it most years. It was an important seasonal income as well as enjoyable work activity.
The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Always like the look on a landowner/farmer's face when I tell them what beaver fur is bringing! Ha! Aint that the truth.
