Personally, i decided to opt out. I have found out plenty of family secrets without the science. For example, the older brother I thought I had, is a sociopathic adopted bass turd.

While I always knew there was something amiss, It took until my parents died that their siblings just couldn't wait to fill me in.

So, who do you think you are? Do you think you are related to someone famous? Are you sure?

I know who I am and all my kids know who they are except one. He’ll be told a little later in life. Other than that I’m fine the way I am. Can’t change the past anyways, all I can control is the now and plan for the future.

You bet I have. It doesn't change a thing; but makes me feel better, and eliminates what he considers to be power.

Not sure how having my DNA in the big database will affect my children and grandchildren so I'm opting out. I'm sure it will become mandatory someday. Plus, I'm happy with what I know of my family - even if it isn't true.

I know who I am when I look in the mirror, don't need a test to tell me what I am.

I wouldnt give out my DNA-be too scared a bunch of people would come looking for me.

I know but I was fortunate to have family and history to go with it. I would say there are some that would prefer that we not know our history.

I was listening to a radio program a few years back. It was discussing this very subject. One lady called it to say that it turned out via DNA test, that the aunt that she always hated turned out to be her mother.

At least you all have the option to opt out of having your DNA in a database. Mine was entered into a database so I can be assigned a number (census number) the moment I was born.
