Did you get brake oil on the rotor or pads and did you bleed the brakes?

Yes, I'd guess your rotors were worn to match the old pads, now the new pads don't match the rotors. The rotors could be replaced or turned on a lathe.

Thanks. I'll call around and see where I can have them turned.

Not many places turn them anymore because they are made so thin to start with. JMO

If they aren't hot after driving, they will wear into the rotors grooves, unless the rotor is really bad.

Yep , I usually just replace them with new when doing a brake job. Not much more money to do it when it's apart

How did the caliper pistons push back? Stiff? Did you make sure the slides are free? The pulsating is because the rotors are out of round. The smell is most likely because you have a caliper dragging. If one rim is hotter than the other after driving, that’s your culprit side. I replace both calipers at work if one is bad to prevent a brake pull or prevent me from having to do the job again 5,000 miles later when the other caliper drags. Just some thoughts.

Are you just getting a smell after your first drive with new brakes? That's normal as they "bed". The resins and such get hot,it's not unusual to snell them and even see a wisp of smoke on your initial test drive. If this is after a while of having them though, you probably have a caliper issue. You could find out which side is getting hot, but you'd be better off to just replace both sides.

Yeah, its pretty normal to smell brakes after putting on new pads til they wear in.

Urban myth. If your rotor has a few groves but still lots of meat, the new pad will wear to fit actually providing more friction face. The only time I address a rotor is if it gets thin or warped.
