Anyone else ever done this, pickling lime and water, supposed to preserve eggs in the shell for up to two years .first time trying it , we are getting about two dozen eggs a day.

No. fresh eggs go in , fresh eggs come out. I ate some of mine that were over 9 months old. I have a jar now from this fall in storage if my hens quit laying.\

I believe its one tablespoon of pickling lime to one pint of water. Thats it.

No it dont matter. I keep them on the shelf by the canned goods.

The only thing differant is if you hard boil them you need to punch a pinhole so they dont explode. the lime blocks the pores in the eggs.

Oh and you cant use store bought eggs they are washed and wont work they say.

Get a bag of hydrated lime. Lots cheaper. 1 bag will last a lifetime.

There used to be a product called water glass that was used to seal eggshell. It was also used to seal cracked engine blocks and heads. I think it was also called Sodium Silicate.

Yup,,make sure the eggs are covered over the tops with the brine.Should be good for a year like that.We used to do ours in ten gallon crocks.
