Maybe try a small stout stick to brush it out from underneath? Edit...flip the loose jaw up so you arent in between.

Is it just me or do other people not understand a dang thing he says? You don't speak Coonman? He said it all in the first sentence....The rest is he don't want to pinch his fingers.....I think.

Is it just me or do other people not understand a dang thing he says? I like reading his posts,,but before I will click on one of his posts,I wack down a couple belts of whiskey first,,so even if I still cant comprehend it,,I still get a laugh. ADC usualy comes in and translates it into English for us.THEN,,we give him our advise on the topic,,and he ignores everything we advised.Same thing every time.

Am I the only one who is wondering about the new 5-coil? I thought 4-coils were overkill. Never heard of this 5-coil thingy, but I've been out of the loop for awhile. I will make an attempt at translation,,probly means a #5 coil spring. But what do I know.I haven't been drinking YET.

You’re asking us if it’s a bad idea to stick your finger under the pan of a set trap.
Man do you really need to ask that question?
Coonman, do you think it’s a good idea? It’s only good if you don’t get caught!!
There’s lots of times where I put my hands where they shouldn’t be (trapping related) but I never asked. I knew!

I never clean out under the pan in a set made in water. Ever. Anything that squeezes up from under the trap is going to be way too soft to worry about. Especially when setting for beavers. They will have no trouble tripping the trap. Not if you're trapping where there's alot of sand. Sand will pack under the pans like cement and the traps will not spring even if you jump on them and we have short throw triggers. In one area we trap 50 to 75 percent of the traps would be sanded in due to the waters motion. He tried leaves and plastic as pan covers and nothing worked UNTIL he started using polyfill under the pans. Now instead of 50 to 75 percent of his traps being sanded in in that area he has 99 percent workable traps at each check. .where before absolutely 50 to 75 percent would regularly be sanded in. And the more workable traps you have the better your chances at catching more fur.

I just lift the trap out, shake the trap in the water for a second, and scoop out the silt before rebedding. I keep high pan tension, so the trap doesn’t go off when I move it side to side under water.
May God bless you and give you tight chains

Charlie Dobbins said you can learn something from everyone and Slim Pederson said that someone who says there's only one way to do something shows their lack of knowledge.
Amd Charlie also told Jerry once that the only dumb question is the one not asked.
Isnt the whole point of tman? to help new comers learn the art of trapping? and not just a place where the so called experts can set around lie about their catches and slap each other on their backs?

Coonman is like 60 years old, has been trapping forever, and been a member here for a lot of years.

Gentleman has anybody thought of making a stand or a platform to place trap on ,, for this sandy or quicksand muck you describe??? Seem pretty easy to me to build a platform for type of situation. May have to pull out and put back everyday but the trap would fire ???

Pretty sure folks post what works for “them” in there area. What may work for one may not work for someone else. When someone asks for help or posts what they did, then what works for someone else may actually work for you. Some of the best advice I’ve gotten on here has been through PM’s with no discussion. It also helps if someone can legitimately understand the question or post, otherwise it’s good luck or just quit.
Since you’ve been out trapping I’ll sum up what I’ve learned about coonman: He’s 60 He’s not tech savvy He hates his boss and sometimes his job His truck is running on its last cylinders He has a bad knee He’s a coon trapper and apparently a beaver trapper too He doesn’t like doctors
Now you are caught up on the legendary coonman. On the IRS bad list.

Apparently Mrs. Cathryn didn’t know. And yeah, some folks on here are set in their ways. Like I said, what they do works for them, just may not for everyone else and they just can’t see inventing a new wheel. Folks set in their ways is absolutely fine by me. Its when they feel the need to disparage others just because they don't agree. Even when they have never tested the new way.

I've placed a few #1s in the sand and clay mixture I call quick-clay because it grabs you fast and doesn't let go, I've lost a few pairs of shoes to it. It acts like concrete under my traps I have to press real hard on a stick for them to fire. Keep in mind they were set for mink so zero pan tension, I will have to try underalls for underwater.

I trap the mo. river with its flowing sand it'll put a trap out of commission in just a few hours, I found fiberglass insulation under the pan keeps enough sand from under the pan so it'll fire for several days. Dennis

I've trapped lots of rivers. And as far as I know there Is no way you can beat the sand Issue If there Is any current at all. Once you set a trap you are disturbing the natural flow and all of a sudden you have sand build up, It's just like what a snow fence does when It snows. Putting something under the pan may keep the sand out In that area but your trap may still get buried so It wont go off. I have caught beaver and had them buried so deep I couldn't pull them out of the sand.

He sounds like a number of people I know and that could be any of us down the road. I just don't feel like you should belittle people period regardless of their life's circumstances Walk a mile.in someones shoes, put yourself in their position before you down them. All im saying is i fell like people in general should Just respect other people and their ideas even of you don't agree with where theyre coming from. Again I’m being quoted, yet never put anyone down. Also know for a fact I’ve never rejected an idea. Heck I try everything I read, lol. Some has worked and some hasn’t. Apparently I’m being confused with someone else. This is twice now. All the information I posted is from his own threads and posts through the year. Mrs. Cathryn thought he was a kid....
