Went back out and wacked a couple more. Took a trapper with me that had never been. Water was getting murky and at times it was hard to see. But the didn't all get away.

Might be a stupid question, but what is the tag in it’s mouth?

Tommie It is a tag put on the fish to see how many big fish are being taken. It is a numbered tag and they can track where and where it was tagged and taken.
spotter Bunny boots are all I wear in the winter. I was in AK four years and figured that they were the way to go then.

grumley701 Yes I did all they tag are fish over a certain size. They do it when they are netting to check the population. I took the tag off which is a C shaped piece of aluminum to save it. I was surprised the fish was very raw under the tag. The smaller of the two large fish had way more eggs. I gave them all to the guy I went with so I am not sure the bigger fish even had any eggs. It may not have been because of the tag, but it may have been.

So, do you report the tag for research, or what? Very cool!

I had shot banded ducks and geese before, but that was my first banded fish. The ducks and geese were all banded within 100 miles of where I got them, but up to 9 years earlier. I sent the numbers in yesterday and requested information on where and when the fish was banded.

I went out again today. I saw 42 carp, 5 suckers, 2 walleyes and 8 pike. Two of the eight were keepers, the other six fawns. The biggest one, 10-12lbs, came in hard, grabbed the decoy and shot back out. The other keeper would have been about 7 lbs, it swam past and acted like it never saw the decoy. Some of the fawns.

Note mud on the pikes back. I have seen that before. They must be digging frogs or crawdads.
