Getting the bug here. The weather has been nice the last few days. Working to get everything done around the house. So when it’s time to go, will be ready to go. Seeing lots of birds in the fields along the roads. Going to give the federal TSS loads a try this year. Will pattern a few of them tomorrow and see if they are all they claim. Post up some pictures of your turkey rigs, share some stories. It’s always fun to hear about turkey hunting in other areas vs here.

Well if your mountains are anything like these around here, I am betting you wont have that extra 40 for long. When is 50 at 4:00 in the morning and you have a 3 hour walk in full battle dress. It tends to take it off you pretty quick.

Still a good six weeks out here. Gonna do some patterning around noon or so. I put together some loads for the 12ga but mostly gonna play with the 410's. I loaded up some #10 tss to try.

What size shot did you get? Also, what gauge?

Opener is April 6 here. Planned to go scout today but the wind was howling all day. Planning to use the flintlock this year and need to get out and start working up a load and patterning it.

Can’t hardly wait. Our turkey numbers are awful this year. It’s going to be a tough year but hopefully I will be lucky enough to hear a few gobbles. Also planning a trip out to South Dakota in May so that will be fun.

Post up your patterns with that tss . I can't see the draw to them or the cost to shoot a turkey. I use old #5 lead and kill birds dead every year

I will post them. It warming up nice here today, so should be a good day for it. This is the first time I have tried them. I have used Long Beard in #5 since they came out.

Heck let’s post lead VS TSS patterns and let the peeing begin. LOL say 35 yards to start it for the first pics?

Ours starts March 20 and I can’t wait. Birds are gobbling good in the mornings, but not in the evenings yet.
Started turkey hunting late in life, didn’t start until 2010...it totally consumed me. I had my GrandSlam in 4 years (all public land) and got my Royal in 2019. I work to turkey hunt. I trap to save turkeys. Trapping money pays for turkey hunts, lol!

I’ve been using a Remington Youth 870 20ga for the last 7-8 years. Been shooting #9 TSS for about the last 5 years or so. TSS doesn’t cost us anywhere near what they charge for store bought shells either. Most look at TSS as more range. We look at it as more killing power. I like the red mist as it blows through a turkeys noggin.

I started out using decoys, then fanning, but the last several years I realized any 6 year old that can shoot a gun could kill a turkey that way. I’ve went back to just woodsmanship and calling. When I scout a bird for the next mornings hunt, I want to know which tree he’s in or more specifically which limb he tucks his head on. Roosted ain’t always roasted, but I figure I’m at 50% success by knowing exactly where he’s roosted and up it to 75% if I know where the hens are and get between the two.

Yes...I love/live turkey hunting!!

Cant wait either ! By far my favorite thing to hunt. I got into it pretty late, but have had a ton of fun the last five years. Have made some great memories with my kids and brother in that time. Good luck to all !!

Yeah, forgot to mention both my boys have killed turkeys as well. My oldest is about as eat up with as I am. May try and let CJ get one this year. A guy I introduced to turkey hunting 3 years ago is guiding a child this weekend in fact. It’s definitely something you pay forward!

I rarely use decoys either. It's a rush watching a gobbler working his way in, searching for the hen that was doing all the yapping...Figure out your range and note which trees are within it. When he steps behind one and walks back into view, he's a goner
