Geez I can understand some of the dislike because subarus are what the crazy Karen tree huggers drive but they are for the most part super cars. We’ve had 2 legacy’s and 2 forester’s over the last 26 years and we still have 2 foresters. The two legacy’ both went over 200k with one needing a rebuilt tranny. Zero problems other than that and made close to 30 mpg. Our first forester is a 2003 bought new, manual tranny and has 221k on it. We still drive it as our run around car taking kids back and forth to school. It makes 30 mpg and is all wheel drive and can haul a lot because of the real boxy back end. Back seats fold forward and give a ton of room back there. Trapped beaver out of it this year when battery dead on truck. We also have a 2014 forester that’s an automatic which makes easily 34 mpg on the highway. Still all wheel drive and sits a little taller than the old one. I would have never owned one but wife has always been a fan. I feel I lose a little bit of my man card when I drive them but they are cheaper than Toyota’s and have served us pretty much hassle free couldn’t recommend them more.

We had a used Outback for several years. Had to replace the head gaskets which is fairly common on the vintage we had. Was decent gas mileage. I live on dead-end dirt road with 3 houses on it that isn't high on the snow plow priority list for the county. The road gets lots of snow and some serious drifts. That car got me home more times that it probably should have. Finally got rid of it at 150k miles because the rear suspension broke. Replacement was more expensive then the car was worth. I'd get one again.

Yes, last Aug. I got a 2020 Outback. I like all the safety features on them. Take some getting used to. Not a lot of storage room up front. I did not like the control on the Forster, but they set a little higher making it easier to get in and out, my wife has a hard time getting in and out. Lighting is outstanding. Gas millage is not that good, but I always warm my cars up. Would I get another one, yes but I would look harder at the Forster. Make sure you look at all the options, heated seats (backs) and steering wheel, head light that turn when you go around a corner. Camera up front. The first thing I noticed is I could drive with mud boots on.

Had a Forester for 3 years now, very happy. My daughter just bought a CrossTrack drove it from Washington State to NY then DC and back to Washington State in February, no problems with snow and ice.

We looked at them when my wife needed a new car. Seems like people love them or hate them. Being a Japanese brand they are probably reliable. We went with a Toyota Rav 4.

I wouldn't buy one either; just not my style. I haven't owned a car in 30 years. I only drive trucks.
But, a friend of mine has a new Subaru and absolutely loves it.

Got over 200000 miles on all 3 of previous ones. '18 has 50k on it an never been back to subaru yet. I'm in woods as much as possible always hunting, trapping, shed hunting, scouting for next adventure and the Suby goes anywhere the truck willl go plus places u can't turn the tk around and for only half as much fuel!!!
I run only winter tires year round cause I'm not on hard road half the time.
Always changed oil an filter every 5k and can't remember ever having to ad any tween changes.

What kind of gas millage are you getting with your Subaru? Do you have an Outback or Forester?

I get 27.5 mpg in the winter ( winter studded tires ), 31.8 mpg in summer in my 2016 Forester. With studded tires, it makes a good vehicle for a winter trap line. I keep a Jet Sled in the rear to hold down the mess.

On a trip to Maine last September, I got 33 mpg.

I have some younger friends that are total Subie gearheads. Head gasket issues can be problematic on some , I've heard that due to the design of some of the engines that one of the cylinders runs a bit colder than the other three , this makes head gaskets go more frequently. Sad thing is due to the boxer design , you have to remove the engine to replace a head gasket , just like when you need to replace a clutch pack you have to remove the engine to replace it as it is easier to remove the engine than to remove the transmission on some models.

Will grant you this , hands down best car in snow with the awd . Not including trucks/suv's , but best car.

Reliability very good , not as good as Toyota or Honda , but very close. I've been lucky enough to 'hoon' several WRX Sti 's , stock and with mods. Punch the engine out a bit with more boost and they are quick. The tuner market has some nice mods for these cars , my friend has a Legacy that he grafted Brembo brakes from a Cadillac. It stops nice , cheap mod compared to buying Brembo's designed for a Subie with Cadillac brakes from a junkyard for 1/3 the cost. It's kinda cool when you look through the slots on his rims and you see the Cadillac logo clearly on the caliper.

Lots of them and tuners here , we even have a Subaru only junkyard a couple of towns away which is a great source for parts.
