They work, but I would much prefer a #11. I find the little coils hard to bed and once they get weaker you lose coon. Another good trap that I don't mess with anymore is a Blake and Lamb #1 longspring with the swivel moved to other side so they pull toward the spring.
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

What chain setups does everybody use, short or long chains, do you add extra swivels? All I did was cut the stock ring off and put a stake swivel on.I used 24" rebar stakes back then.

Used some Northwoods No.1 coils years ago, those traps grab a coon paw like a bulldog and don't let go. X2. And now the price of Northwoods #1 will skyrocket. Lol Ha,good luck trying to find any!

You guys are holding those big ole MN and Michigan coon in those little #1s. Blows my mind. Never tried them. Yes I was surprised with some of the big coon I caught in my little Northwoods. Their foot filled up the trap but those little traps are strong. I dont think they get in to chew at all either. I still have all of the ones I purchased back in the late 70's and even have picked up more when I found them. With rats and mink though they needed to be hair triggered in order for them to fire.

Still use them ole Northwoods for groundhogs, and others. If it steps in them and you did your job, they'll be there at check.

Way better traps out there. Duke 1.5 DJ is one of the most widely used coon traps there is. #11 is a good trap as well but if you are trapping bigger coon they tend to step on the pan and the jaw at the same time. LLL

Good project for one of these up and coming trap companies like Wolf Creek , Fleming or Duke. Make a modern duplicate of the NW#1. While they are at it I would love to see a copy of the NW 1 3/4 s.j. coil- that was my favorite all time trap. A #2 long spring like victors with A bolt pan set up would be nice too. I believe the Bridger No.1 coil is a duplicate,so I've been told

LLL Doesn't mean a #1 set right won't hold a coon! Where did you get that? The #1 long spring with the short spring was the go to trap for years in coon country. Then the #11. When 1.5 coils came out it set a new standard. I simply said there are better options. Many who would set a #1 for coon would not have a clue on properly bedding a trap for coon which is a whole other subject. There is a bit more to trapping coon with a small trap than throwing it down. LLL
