Hey guys,
whats your favourite lock, cable and really whole setup for coyote snares? I had a chew-out using 5/64 and that could be for many reasons, but I was thinking about switching to 3/32.... Anyways, I wanna hear your 2 cents.
Thanks, Gabriel

what bruiser1 said. if there is no entanglement, then I like the old Berkshire washer lock with 3/32 7x7. I also like gregorsons lock, but those can't be re-used.

I like micro lock with dispatch spring with an in-line barrel swivel and 6 foot extension . I use 5/64 1x19 cable for snare and 3/32 7x7 for extension. The only chew out I ever had was with slim locks. He chewed out and ran right into another one of my snares about 50 yards away. I will Never use them again. Most coyotes caught with slim locks had jelly head and tore the set location up. Pretty quick kills with the micro lock and spring. You will get more refusals with 3/32. What lock were you using? I was using standard non-toothed micro locks. No dispatch spring.

I used Bruiser1's system for many years with excellent success with quick dispatches and few, if any, waterheads. The key to its effective use is to tie high and solid. The problem with the slim lock is that the short protrusion on it catches up in the thick neck fur and does not lock up on the cable as it's designed to do.

Mini Cam-locks are my top choice, there are a few varieties of them, never saw enough difference in them on the line to care about one variety over another. I use the little conibear-looking killsprings and 7x7 3/32" cable on killpoles.

I see you have made 1291 posts so I assume you know there is a lot more to it than lock and cable. I prefer 1/16 1x19, hardened teeth camlock, torsion spring, loaded.
