I can't imagine that mixing gliserine would hurt. Also might get it to a uniform consistency that you like. Like any organic oil, at ambient temps it will eventually break down and become rancid. That is what happened to some I had from one year to the next.

I should mention, too, that it will sell fast on the trap shed if you're so inclined.

I've never had sac oil turn rancid. I had some that was over five years old, and it was still good. The key is to not get any blood from the sac get in the oil. The way I prevent contamination is to dry the sacs for a few days before milking them. That's good to know- I have been squeezing it our right away and plan to let it dry now.

I don't think your going to get sac oil to dry down to a powder if that's what your trying to do.

My "jar" of beaver lure is like sourdough starter. It is over 20+ yrs old and never gone bad. I add 50/50 castor and sac oil every season to keep it topped. All I've ever needed(but I 90% trap beaver in the spring when they very territorial.
I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.

I don't think your going to get sac oil to dry down to a powder if that's what your trying to do. He's drying the sack a few days before he squeezes them so you get oil without juices and blood from the sac. Read what Paul wrote. That's the way I've done it for many years, probably picked the tip up from Paul back then. I have sac oil on the shelf from probably 10 years ago that is just fine, never froze it or anything.

Sac oil was pretty much my only beaver lure the last five years or so that I was doing ADC work. I wish I had figured it out earlier. I kept mine from year to year, and did have some that smelled "rancid" or "spoiled" the next year. I used it however and seemed to work fine. I refreshed my bottle regularly though. I also kept male and female separate.

My experience is: sac oil works sometimes when castor doesn't.

I've never had sac oil turn rancid. Isn’t it rancid to start with? I never could stand the smell of the stuff. Mink glands, no problem. Beaver sac oil, run for the hills!

Paul could be right about the blood contamination, because I always seem to have some dribble in there when squeezing it out.
