Not sure if anyone has thought of this set yet, but it might be fun to play with. Pile up some leaves and grass to look like a bird nest on a field edge bed a trap infront of the nest like you would a dirthole, and place one under the grass like a hay set put two of the white porcelain eggs that are used to keep chickens from eating their eggs on the nest, then sprinkle eggshells from your breakfast for scent and eye appeal, then top it off with sfe or an egg based lure like miligans hens revenge. Has anyone done this, any suggestions to improve this set, i plan on messing with it some to catch coons and foxes this fall

Maybe move it under heavy pines for the crow reasons.

We have a winner!! Crows down here will flock to a few yelps of a hen. They’ll follow her around waiting on her to go back to her nest and you know the rest of the story. I’ve seen them in a cage trap trying to get eggs.

It would work if you could cover it during the daylight hours. Then you’d only have to worry about nighttime aerial predators.

Watched a video about a European trap that they tied an egg too. Think they used it for martin. Great big long thing. Used it pretty much like you said, covered everything but the egg with leaves. Found a picture of one.

Does your state have a law like our state that bait must be covered, as in not being able to be seen from above?

I throw eggs in my bucket sets and sprinkle eggshells around them to entice raccoons and other egg eaters into them. Our exposed bait laws only apply to footholds.

Saw a set like that in Nicely's fox book, I think it was. Said it was a good gray fox set. I'm sure it would catch coon, too.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

if you make your pile 2' high and 2' dia, you have what is know as a trash pile set.
Empty toilet paper rolls are perfect for stuffing in the pile and luring.....thanks Mchewk.
