They own endless property around SD drive around Sioux Falls it seems most buildings on the South end of town are owned by one hospital or another. They bragged a few years ago about helping the 1 millionth person in Africa with free services. So I’m always happy to pay $3,000 deductible so others can get the same for free.

So things must be so bad for them I received a Covid shot bill for $57.00 lol Did not know you could even charge to give a Covid shot?

If you have insurance they will charge for using their AC or heat while you wait!

They can't charge for the shot, but they can charge an admin fee for paperwork and injecting the serum.

I have coverage but they never asked for it and I though it was free, free, free, free. LOL I got it straightened out just the idea they get the nonprofit status but charge for everything.

My lady friend nurse just discovered her hours don't jive with the payroll. She brought it up to her higher up but can't get an answer. Hospitals today can do anything they want it seems.

Trillions spent and it did not cover giving the shots to some people you gotta be kidding me. So the working stiff without benefits pays that $57 I see.

Nonprofits can and do make profits and many do very, very well. They can also invest in markets etc. to earn more monies. Their status is granted by the states, if they want tax exempt status that comes through the feds. The owners etc. of the nonprofit can not profit from the business or create a profit sharing etc. All the profits or revenues must be invested back into the business and how that can and is defined can allow buying other properties etc. etc. There are many very large successful nonprofits outside of the medical sector. Many or most rely heavily on donations etc. The hospitals are in a unique position to be able to charge competitive and comparable fees to other hospitals and thus have a very good income stream and can invest in a lot of areas and properties.

Jerry we are close enough to the border we can opt out of that nonsense if we want to. Getting dental work and minor procedures south of the Rio became so popular there are tons of cash and carry type medical clinics all over Texas now.

The will happily discuss how much they would bill your insurance carrier vs how little they will accept if it is
cash on the barrel head today (as if they don't realize I view them as dishonest cheats and con men / women)

For those w/o insurance, the hospitals have another method to charge the administration fee directly to the government. One of our hospitals made it very clear on local television and couple of days ago that the shot and administration fee would be completely covered by the government for those without insurance.
