There is little piece of land across the road from me that local guys crow hunt. Great spot as it is right on the shore of Lake Huron, about 50’ above the water and the crows fly along the shore at eye level. Two month season and that group shoots around 900 every year. I can barely hear the shots from inside my house and it sounds like they are having a great hunt today.

Michigan treats crow as migratory so we have two month spring and two fall season. Any other state like this?

I see a bunch here in places seeing a lot when rat trapping, I remember hearing Mexico made a big stink about them not having a season since they migrated South doves at one time did not need bird stamp to hunt.

Ohio has a similar take on them. There's a closed season period from march to June. The open season it's only a few days a week, Friday to Sunday.

Here in Oklahoma you are not required to have a HIP permit to hunt them like doves and waterfowl but we do have a season on crow in the fall/winter. I have an electronic call in my fur shed and on long days working fur I will set it outside and let it run while I'm working until I hear them swarming around outside and then I step out the door and cut loose on them. On a good day I can get 3 shots off and kill 2. Kinda breaks up the monotony.
P. S. This only works about once every 3 days or so unless they are migrating through. The local birds catch on quick.

Crows would likely be open season year round in most states if it wasn't for Mexico (natl bird). They pitched gripe years ago and the Feds mandated no state to have a season longer than 180 days (if I remember correctly). Mn has a split season about that long and can also shoot them "when doing or about to do damage". Which is all the time in my book (but not all wardens agree).

Crows are smart. Been said the smartest bird on the planet where they have been documented to make tools, use them, and stash them for future use. Those who hunt the ones that aren't in a flight path know they remember old hunt locations and will steer clear of them for years. Around here they only roost in inner city parks where they know shooting is not allowed.

That said, they hunt my neighborhood daily going from deck to deck, overhang to overhang looking and robbing robin and other birds nests. Sure are fun (and essential) to kill.

I believe in Wisconsin you can hunt crows from 18th of September til 18th of November. Then again from January 28 til March 20th.

It's not a state thing, crows are migratory bird per Federal regulations. The Federal regulations give the states authority to set their own seasons, but only allow so many days of crow hunting per year.

Thanks, I couldn’t remember why they received migratory protection.

I saw the first crow arrivals this morning. Here in Alberta they are considered as pests and as such the season and limit is wide open.

Also saw the first flock of ducks this morning.

You're allowed to shoot them anytime in the act of depredation. If you look up the definition of depredation in a dictionary, I believe you could justifiably say any crow shot was in the act of depredation. Depredation is how a crow makes a living. It seems fitting that he could be shot for the same smile

I know a several years ago Illinois was wide open but then like Calvin said Mexico made a big fuss about it. Now they have a season like all the states.

Crows were added to the Migratory Bird Treaty in 1972, so they’ve been limited since then in the US.

Similar wording here...so I asked the local warden (at the time). He disagreed. Of course that's one warden and interpretation may differ.

it closes for deer season and till some other season is over so that you don't take shots at crows while these other seasons are running.

nothing else closes on or just before Jan 28 so I don't understand that date but it is what it is.
