I get the fun job....weighing some new born lambs. So far 5 Rams and 2 Ewes....one sheep left to lamb out. Think she might have triplets this weekend. My son is the shepherd and knows what he’s doing....I just stepped in for a photo opt.....lol

Good pic, Nessy. The black & white makes it look like old days on the ranch.

I love walking into the barns up at the farm this time of year. Hundreds of sheep, and most with lambs. The sound is deafening until the feeder gates open. My wife's favorite thing during her ag training program was collecting the newborn lambs off the hillsides.

Here they sell off the males asap to the Spanish who eat them at Christmas. The later born males are for Easter in France.

You might be able to trade your rams to someone who raises market lambs for 4H. We sometimes do that with Boer goat bucklings.

I remember those mornings, noons, evenining, and middle of the nites. Checked on Ewes in barn during lambing season 6-8 times in 24 hours. We had 50 Ewes raising club lambs and orthodox Easter lambs. I’m getting tired thinking about it.

Friends of ours have a camera system in their barn....and it shows up on your Smaaht Phone. They are about 80.00 .....think we might get one next year.

What is the deal with Club lambs ? I know they are well muscled lambs.....but are they just shown and sold at auctions . Are they considered a market lamb ? Or just a game for the rich and famous ?

They are bred and sold for the show ring on different levels, from $200 entry level 4h lambs to $25000 lambs for folks to chase that one show like Huston or Louisville.
I think my son has all of his sold from about $ 500 to about $ 5000 . He has some to show and sell that will hopefully be in that $10 to 15 thousand range
